How do I download files larger than what's limited by the server?

These guys at college have provided Ethernet cables in hostel. The internet is fast enough for my purposes, but those retards put a limit on downloadable file size, 5 MB. WTF is 5 MB? I mean if it was 50 MB, it would have made some sense. So I need to sneak under whatever-barrier they have put up.

Thing is, I can download torrents (I said earlier, they're retards) and I have downloaded quite a lot last few days. I just cannot direct-download anything more than 5 MB.

I recently tried to download Safari 4 Beta. It was then that I realized the limit. Damn! the problem is, you cannot find torrents of legit files like it. That puts me in a big problem.

As torrents download fine, I guess they are limiting just a few ports, like maybe port 80. So there should be a way I can download them, say using Socks or some other port? I am a NOOB in this so please help.

I'm on a Mac by the way.

Added: I just came to know stuff like HTTP Tunnel for downloading using port 80 where torrents are blocked. I was looking for something the other way round..

Well torrent gets downloaded because it works in chunk like 100 pieces of 1MB each. So you are not downloading a single piece with size more than 5MB ever when using torrents.
You just assemble chunks at your PC and add them to make it a bigger file :)

As for your problem, try https tunneling. The thing about it is that it may not work with all sites.

Here is something I found, but you will need to use command line...lol:

^ Oh, thanks for that. I thought about it earlier, but I don't know if there are Free download managers for Mac. Let me search.

@ichi I don't have the slightest idea how to do it (https tunneling)..

Ufff.. The link you gave, damn me. I didnt get a thing! Can I even do that in Mac? Can't I use something more automated and easily configurable?
Strange co-incidence. That guy also said about a limit of 5MB. Is that a worldwide standard?
