HDD for backup - SATA or Normal ?

I have 2 PCs working more than 16 hrs a day and I am planning to get 2 160 GB HDD for these for backup purposes. At present these PCs has 80 GB HDD each. Like if the present HDD fails, I can use the backup HDD to continue working without reinstalling everything (using GHOST or something).Thats my plan.

The normal HDD and SATA HDD, there is considerable difference in speed/performance ? Which one I should go ? Another thing is, I think (is there any way to check ?) my Motherboard does not support SATA, so if I want to buy SATA HDD, I may need to change things from motherboard itself ! It worth changing ?

Oh, I just saw the motherboard box, it is written - Asrock K7VM4. No SATA it seems ...

Also, any recommendation on brand ? Or all same ?

And finally, whats EIDE ? Please enlighten me

If sata is suported then you should buy sata hdd, so later when u upgrade the comp u have a compatible hdd, I did so last year & bought a IDE 2 sata convertor for Rs 500/ & used it till I upgraded.

Just for ur info the ghost image can be written to CD/dvd so just for doing that u don't need a new hdd.The image it creates is compressed so when hdd fails &you need to restore all u need is to restore from that image in dos mode & u will be back & running .

Yes, I use Ghost / TrueImage now, making into DVDs. But I was thinking of buying HDD as prices came down a lot.

Yes I think that HDD will be a better idea than DVD/CD as you can store much more data on HDD. And DVD will be ruined if you somehow a scratch is developed over it, but HDD will keep on going (Unless ofcourse you give it a very powerful blow)

Yes this is the card I bought, it fits into the IDE port on the mobo & there is a delay of 10 sec in booting, but taht hardly matter to me since I reboot once a week only or maybe when I install a new program.
