Well if u just wanna know whether u are on static or dynamic ip, head on to *www.whatismyip.com/ and note down your ip address. Disconnect and re-establish your net connection. Go to the earlier site and check if the ip remains the same. If it is, u have static ip allocation and vice-versa !! :)

That was one of the dumbest/easiest ways of knowing whether your ip allocation is static or dynamic. U can also know the same by typing in ipconfig /all in the command prompt. Your IP address will be listed in there. Disconnect and re-establish the connection the repeat the same steps.

Please post if u need detailed explanation of the second step :)

go to your network connections->your lanconnection->properties->tcp->properties->there if you find some ip address entered like 192.168.0.12 then you are assigned statically
if nothing is find and obtain ip address automatically box is ticked ,then it is dynamic

In general, unless you specifically ask for a static connection (which will cost extra), you will have a dynamic IP only (at least in India this is the case)...

If you are not on your computer, but want to know if some one else's computer is connected by static or dynamic IP, you can use the above method...

Yeah dynamic Ip adress is the norm here in India but if you need a static ip adress then MTNL charges about Rs3k extra per year for that. But I wonder who would want a static ip address not the pirates atleast.

Oh no.. you got it wrong.. ISP's are the one that give you the IP address, your system just doesn't get it out of thin air.

Now, if you are talking about IP addresses assigned by your router to your computers connected to it, then that's a different story.

This is right way to find static or dynamic

The IP which we get using command is not the IP given by our ISP..rather it is IP of our LAN card.

Dude, did you just fall from the sky onto the earth now? You got some new networking classes from aliens or something?

First you say that the ISP has nothing to do with IP address, now you're saying that Dynamic IP address is costlier than Static? lol... it's not us who are poor at networking, you are just boasting of something that you have no idea of dude. Believe us if you want.

better contact your ISP before making useless comments.Dude if static Ip was cheaper then why isn't our cost conscious ISP's providing that to us?And I told you the exact cost involved as it was a lil time ago.Static Ip is kind of a permanent address on internet. You have no idea what you're talking about.I guess you asked the question to know if you can get caught if some company finds out that you are doing some illegal activity(live downloading pirated material and such) can it trace you?So getting straight to the answer yes it can trace you even if you are on dynamic ip address if your isp cooperates with them fully.

I think U have a big confusion regarding this.
Call ur ISP and ask..what is cost of a static IP per month.I think it is around RS. 2500/- per month.

ipconfig /all displays the full network configuration information including IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway for all adapters.
