a friend wants to sell off his rtx 2060 and get a rtx 3060-will he notice any significant performance improvements by doing so?

he has i5 10400 with 16gb ram and a 1080p monitor.

His gpu is about a year old and has 4 yrs warranty remaining(zotac extended warranty). How much can he expect for it if he were to sell it off?

3060 does give a uplift but go for 6600XT which costs as much as 3060 and performs better.

Saw 6650XT for 28k or so, which makes it cheaper than 3060 & slightly better performance. RT is still not viable at this performance class and DLSS or FSR are not viable at 1080p target resolution as well.

In terms of performance uplift, I'd say it is not significant. You will get 20-25% uplift. For a good uplift, jump to 3060Ti or 6700XT. That will be 50-60% jump.

But if 1080p is the target resolution & card is new, stick to 2060 IMO. Since RX 6600 is 20-23k, used 2060 might sell for 15-16k or so.

Below is a pic from an old video, newer GPUs generally run better in newer games as time progresses, so gap between 2060 & 6600 might be even wider now:

IIRC Geforce Now was going to launch in India with partnership with Jio, is this the same?
May be. As per news, they have partnered with multiple entities.
Could you also mention what kind of games you played?
I have played The uncertain and Saints row. As of now the collection is very small but they are still in Beta. The page takes some time to load as well, but once loaded, its fast.

Does RX6600XT 8GB stack up for 1440p gaming in 2025?
While playing Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 I have been getting flatlining and DirectX errors with my GPU and even if I play in DirectX11 in Witcher3 it was crashing.
Other games like Wolfenstein series did not crash at all but frozen once or twice while gaming.
Is my GPU at fault? I am using Windows 11 24H2 version OS.

And to answer your other question, even a 3060ti barely manages to run most new games at decent settings at 1440p,so 6600XT will have an even tougher time doing so.
My GPU seems to be out of warranty and also I have been getting bsods, crashes and freezes even while browsing and after I did many tricks and tweaks mentioned in the AMD and MS forums and in reddit it stopped crashing now but didn't play any game until now after the crashes or bsods stopped. I will try this and report back here. Okay.
I even downgraded my AMD Adrenaline drivers to last year and to december, 2024 drivers before but flatlining in Cyberpunk didn't stop. In Jan to February I searched all forums and Reddit and afterwards crashes stopped. But I uninstalled all games out of frustration because seeing them and not able to play is driving me mad that's why.

I even messaged the Chennai RMA centre contact guy of MSI today about if any repairs buying the warranty expiration but I didn't receive any reply until now though.

I don't think the problem is with the GPU since other games play well but with AMD and MS not providing drivers or fixed for their GPUs.

When I encountered such problem the only solution was changing the motherboard....rest every solution (GPU/RAM/CPU) didn't work.... Never faced any issue after changing the MoBo...
