First of all u are wrong in the pricing sense of gtx 550 costs i.e. it doesnt cost around 8-8.5k whereas u can get it frm flipkart @7.7k. Secondly the gtx 550ti is powerful than the lower priced 6770. And yes the gtx 550 does consume more power than the red 6670.
For better scope plz have a look at this.

And about the physx aspect, yes a gamer can live without it but it depends on individual choices.

GTX 550 Ti more powerful than GTX 550 Ti HD 6770? Seriously?

Both are exactly equal in performance. Tell you what, HD 6770 can be procured for ~6.3K and is a much better choice. Same performance, lower price and lower power consumption. MSI R6770-MD1GD5

Where GTX 550 Ti loses out is, power consumption. In reality, GTX 460 is a much better card. GTX 460 is faster than GTX 550 Ti and also has power consumption under control. But GTX 550 Ti? come on.

Pick up either of HD 6790 or HD 7770. These have better performance than GTX 550 Ti at the same price point.

My recommendation will be HD 7770 @ 9K. This is a current generation card - 28 nm and is as fast as HD 6850 with the latest drivers.

@ico

But the OP has a budget of 5-6 k only and you are suggesting a card of 9k bucks. And the gtx 550 is priced at 7.7k so its a bit more but not so much price gap than the budget for the GPU.

Have you even read my posts? I've recommended pretty much everything *right* according to his budget. If 9K, HD 7770. If 6.5K, HD 6770. If 5.5K, HD 6670. :|

What?? I didnt say that actually. Plz do recheck my post.
I meant "GTX 550 Ti more powerful than HD 6770" there. :) You said so, when it is not the case.

Equal.

@soumlesnar

I don't think I am actually. 8-8.5k was an approximation of a 550ti from various manufacturers. The zotac one costs 7.7k sure.

Here is an asus one that costs more than 9k:-
Asus NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1 GB GDDR5 Graphics Card | Graphics Card | Flipkart.com

See what my point was? It was that a better card could be had at that price point of 8-8.5k. and 7.7k is not light years away from 8k.

And in terms of comparison with the 6770 I admit I should have written "similar" instead of same. Check this 550ti comparison with an older 5770(6770 is almost the same card). A better card can be had for the same amount of money that doesn't drain so much power and performs better.

AnandTech - Bench - GPU12

It doesn't make sense to spend 1-2k more to get a card that performs just a little(tiny winy bit) better than the 6770 while consuming twice the power(approximation again).

And yes to OP. what ico said.

Budget= 5.5k, get the 6670.
Budget=6.5k, get the hd 6770
budget=8/8.5k= get the hd 7770.

Yes sir i have very well read your post. I was actually talking about the HD 7770 card priced at 9k suggested by you bcoz the OP hada budget of 5-6k so we dont need to go beyond the budget do we and 9k is far beyond the budget.

U are very correct mate but if the OP is getting that very card at an reduced price that is 7.7k then there is no harm in it bcoz ZOTAC is not that a bad choice to make and since the OP had a limited price budget so i suggested him to go for ZOTAC. And about the power consumption i had already accepted the fact in my earlier posts. Overall 6770 wont be a bad choice too so +1 for u in that aspect.

Just checked.

Not at all. I would be careful. Thanks.

GTX 550 Ti uses more power than HD 6770 . I would advise you to go with the HD 6770 .
+1 to Jripper
Quote:
No that GPU is fine for your
needs.
However, the nvidia 550ti costs
almost 8-8.5k.(The 550ti can be a
bad option though,since it
consumes a buttload of power
and performs similar to the
lesser priced hd6770). You are
advised to go with the 550ti only
if you can't live without using
"physx" in games(which is a bit
of a gimmick if you ask me,but
thats just me).
So your ati options are:-
1.) hd6790(more performance),
2.) hd 7750(epic low power
consumption)
or
3.) hd 6770(same performance).
And if you can find it..I heard
some gigabyte hd 7770 was
going for around 8.5k. if you find
it and can manage the
moolah,then go ahead and buy
it.
(7770 - low power consumption+
performance close to an hd6850)
P.S:- Yes the base of the rig is
perfectly balanced and there are
no compatibility issues. The
boards suggested all have pci
express slots so you can fit in any
present gen graphics card
without any issues.

GT 440 4 GB DDR3...Zotac and Forsa should get the award of releasing the most misguiding card of all time. Those cards can't even use 1 GB in most cases n they are giving 4GB DDR3.

Man, there are still some stocks of HD 5750 (same as HD 6750) from Power Color and Sapphire at 5.8K to 6.2K. Even HD 6770 from MSI is available at only 6.5K in SMC. Just Grab any of them. A 16" LCD TV will have resolution of 1366X768 and at this resolution, a HD 6750 or HD 6770 is more than enough to provide good gaming experience.

PhysX with GTX 550 Ti...again it is a joke. PhysX put a hefty amount of load on the GPU and using same GPU for both Gaming and PhysX drops the performance of the card significantly. Just enable PhysX with Batman Arkham City with a single GTS 550-Ti, you will find out that you are getting below 20 FPS, even at 1600X900 or 1440X900 resolution. That is the reason to use a separate cheaper card for PhysX.
For using PhysX with a single GPU, a 560 Ti is minimum ti get good performance.
