u will get a crap 8400 gs 512mb for 1.4k and as for 8800GT i guess u can go for a 6750 the best u can get or at least a 5770 for full max 1080p gaming. Ask me i m a Owner of Sapphire HD5670 !gb DDR5 and it Runs 80% of the games at 1080p easily with around 40fps(HD 5670 Paired with Athlon II X4 640 3.0Ghz)

a 9800GT will cost u 5.6to 6k(online rates are never accurate)u get a 5770 for 6.4k(one of my friends just took it a 1 week back) and a 6770 for 100 bucks more
hope that helped

I don't think there will be much of a bottleneck with HD 6670 and your current processor. Go with it with your yeses closed.

A 400W local PSU is not enough to run a power hungry 8800GT - so forget that ;-)
Just increase the budget a little bit - say 2.8k and either get GT520 or HD6450 - both should be around ~2.8k ;-)

d6bmg, why you're suggesting a HTPC card while OP needs a card for gaming?
Even a local 500W PSu from brands like Intex/Foxin can run HD 5670 with ease and even HD 6670.
setanjan123, if you're tight in budget, then get MSI HD 6670 1 GB GDDR5 Dual fan version, available @ 5.4K and a local 600W PSu from Intex/Foxin. Price will be around 500/600 bucks. Although not recommended, it can still power the HD 5670 or HD 6670 for some times. But do change the PSU to a decent one like FSP SAGA II 350W @ 1.4K when you can arrange the budget.

dear setanjan123,
i've read u in detail and after considering ur budget and current specs, i wd lik to suggest for gaming, ati 4670 priced around 3k, / nvidia 9500 gt priced around 2k or less,
4670 is far better than 9500gt, and will run at 400w smoothly.
as u hv mentioned tht u can go to 2.2 k , thts why i insist you to go for 4670 radeon, by adding hardly 500inr more.... this card will run all games at high settings, and is prefect for gaming,,
