So, My friend is hell bent on purchasing a > 40" 3D HDTV(probably LG)...he needs a high powered rig for that...the pre-configured rigs weren't of much help so decided to ask here...

A: GAMING on a 3D HDTV

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
A:Yes

3. What is your MAX budget?
A:80000

4. Planning to overclock?
A: No(He doesn't know much about it)

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
A: Windows 7(He has a copy)

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
A: More than 2TB

7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want? If you already want have one and want to use it, mention its resolution and size.
A: I have no idea about the resolution of HDTV's..

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
A: 4(He just knows about Gaming)

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
A: I will do it for him

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
A: in a month

11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
A: atmost 3 years

12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
A: Not needed are Monitor, Speakers.

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
A: Lucknow( Possibly Online)

14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary
A: So basically he needs
Proccesor,
Motherboard,
RAM,
HDD,
GFX,
KB+Mouse,
Cabby,
PSU,
UPS.

Please post an appropriate setup...

I would recommend nvidia card here due to more maturity in 3d arena. With the advent of nvidia play driver, 3d gaming is possible on standard 3d hdtv's.

Check here for more info.

My recommendation will be a single MSI GTX580 Twin Frozr II @ 26k. Its more than enough to handle 3d gaming @ 1080p. For a bit more muscle and better cooling, MSI GTX 580 LIGHTNING @ 29K can also be considered.

560Ti in sli will beat the ... out of 580
560Ti in sli will cost 26-27k and more performance than 580
The only part where 580 will overtake 560 will be in resolution greater than 1080p but as it is a 3D tv the max resolution will be limited by the TV to 1080p.

Also ask your friend to play/see/watch a 3D movie/game on that TV many people complain about head aches due to the constant flicker in stereoscopic 3D
when seen for prolonged time.

The TV and the glasses aren't to be considered in this budget...

Well I too was thinking for something with the power similar to 580...as he wants to run all the games (for 2 years) in Full Glory...he says "no1 should point out that the games are lagging for 2-3 years"...

Wouldn't the i7 2600 be a better proccy then i5 2500?....

As for the RAM...I wanted to know if the Vengeance Series from Corsair are better than the Ripjaws....I wouldn't recommend him the Trident(it would raise the total)...

As for the cabby I've left that to him...coz that's more of a personal choice I think...

I also believe that SLI or crossfire would be a better option than going for a single card..He won't upgrade anytime soon(that would be years)....
And yes, Nvidia would be a better choice(not just for their stronghold on the 3D area) as he also wants the power of Physx....So SLI would be an Apt choice...

I'm just confused in the mobo and the GFX...
Presumably he doesn't want to overclock....So a very High End mobo isn't needed..But I want a feature Rich mobo...is there a compatible mobo with built-in Wi-Fi and bluetooth...

What he needs is a Powerful System that will allow him to game smoothly for 2-3 years...No further Upgrades until then..The Processor and the GFX are of utmost importance here.. So also keep in mind the requirements which upcoming games might ask for...e.g games developed on the UE3 Engine ..

Now Intel Core i5 2500k costs Rs 11500 and Gskill X costs 1700/- for 4GB ddr3 1600mhz

:shock:Are u kidding?....how can it be..

Gtx 580 offers greater depth in 3d than a 560-ti sli.

The Setup is interesting I must say..The PSU costs a bomb though...and why isn't every1 suggesting i7 2600k?

The reason behind suggesting a 2500k is the normal 2500 cost almost 9.5k & the K version cost a few more hundreds. 2600k is way out.

^^Its old stock man that's why the price is such low.I am also going to buy 2500K earlier but looking at the price @11.5k i change my mind to 2600k@14.9K.
BTW.Intel has increased sandybridge prices so those who giving at such a low price must be old stock for sure.Heard from Intel distributors :)

^^ any changes in the architecture from old version in stock & new version ????

if he really wants physx then he should try MSI GTX 560 Ti Hawk SLI @ 28K which performs close to GTX 570 SLI & yet cheap & also use Corsair TX 650V2 as for those two gpus, 850w is more than enough. But I really can't understand why not go with AMD cards, only because of physx ? I suggested 2x HD 6950 OC CFX which is either better than 2x GTX 570 OC SLI or equal to it & yet 10k cheaper, absolute VFM like getting a HD 6990 in 31K.

Another vote for GTX 580 for 3D... And why no one considered Glacialtech 950w @ 6K??

Glacialtech 950w+GTX 580 has more headroom & OP can SLI it wen gtx 580 becomes insufficient for Extreme setting..

Also FYI, the price of i5 2500k is still 10.4K in chennai..

@Tenida, as d3p5kor said old stock n new stock 2500k's doent make any diff.

@Megamind-I know that processor will be the same. But i am just saying "PRICE HAS INCREASED FOR SANDYBRIDGE PROCESSOR".Nothing more than that.

#For Core i7 2600K you need aftermarket cooler.
