^^ i also believe the pen drive life will be effected.
Will there be any speed difference while installing?

yes, it'll be slower practically than an optical media install. regarding the life, i don't think it'll affect much. coz the decompression and installation is not taking place on the pen drive.

but constant data read/writes ll definitely reduce the life of the pen drives..

If no write operation takes...place in case of CD, then why would it happen in case of pen drive.

Yeah no writing takes place obviously but what pathiks want to point out is that the amount of reading that'll take place might reduce the life of the Pen-Drive. Am not sure of that really, don't even know if that's a myth, but I guess it'll survive the torture :)) And if it doesn't, a new one doesn't set you back by much! :p

^reg this i read somewhere that installing distro in a economy pendrive and using it regularly is =>disastrous!

it is wise to take a not finalized cd-r(DVD-r?) with puppylinux heh?
u can even take ur obtained data backed up too on the cd-r!

^^^ lolz.... :D

regarding the reads, it won't affect the life much don't worry. its the write operations that strain the drive. again, if it dies, go claim the warranty!
