Can i use USB flash disk(pen drive) to install distros instead of DISC??
i have 1gb flash drive which i want to use to be able to install distro by using it as bootable media & install a distro to my hard drive
yes, it'll be slower practically than an optical media install. regarding the life, i don't think it'll affect much. coz the decompression and installation is not taking place on the pen drive.
Yeah no writing takes place obviously but what pathiks want to point out is that the amount of reading that'll take place might reduce the life of the Pen-Drive. Am not sure of that really, don't even know if that's a myth, but I guess it'll survive the torture And if it doesn't, a new one doesn't set you back by much!
regarding the reads, it won't affect the life much don't worry. its the write operations that strain the drive. again, if it dies, go claim the warranty!
