My earlier thread was here

Going to Nehru place tomorrow. Prices are from costtocost list or when couldn't find guessimates.

Can I buy these parts from all over and assemble them in one shop ? Suddenly decided this evening I wanted a 24 inch monitor (was thinking of BENQ LCD 20" (G2025HD) before)

I want to try a hackintosh so severely limited in mobo (my alternative and preference is Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3) and graphics card. (no 7850 for me, sadly)

Need just a critical eye and anything i can cut down on ? mybe the power supply ?

wasn't expecting to build a rig until after rains, so circumstances have caught me a bit off guard to tell you the truth.

GPU is a bit overpriced. It should be around 11k.
You can get Corsair GS600 @4k+tax (bought it a few weeks ago). (PSU)
Get better speakers. Try the F&D A-520

F&D A-520 2.1 Multimedia Speakers | Speaker | Flipkart.com

An 8 gb pen drive does not cost 800 bucks. and 2 dual layer dvd's do not cost 200 bucks. They both cost less. pen drive around 500 bucks and 2 DL dvd's max 100 if you want good quality dvd's. Or get "national" DL dvd's @ Rs. 25 each

Changed to Corsair GS600 in my excel file. (do you think i can get by 500w or something ? will never overclock anything )

F&D is better than iball. okay, then changed that also. i'll to find these, but if they aren't available what are best alternatives among these ? i need simple speaker that just plug into the headphone jack. waisay, F&D A520 2.1 (5000W) is there is costocost price list for 1738.

IMO don't risk it. You can't predict whether you might decide to overclock or not. And in any case you might upgrade to even more powerful components in the future so a good PSU is always handy.
If you can't find either then i guess u can find an altec lansing model for around 1.1k. they are not amazing or anything but they do the job.(I am no expert in terms of speakers).

BTW you were suggested some configurations in your previous thread. WHy not choose one of them? The rig you posted above is not too well balanced. you can get a better rig at the price.

Well balanced ? Could you tell me what component you think is too powerful ? I will decrease them to the level you suggest. But can't change the mobo and graphics card.

I want to try hackintoshing. That is why I m particularly limited in my motherboard and graphics card choices. [6870 is most powerful card] Wanted to delay the assembly of my computer rig after 660ti came and after the rains. (btw, chances of electric failures increase in this humid weather, no ?)

But unexpected came into some relatives gifting me money and as a bonus dad is taking the car to Delhi tomorrow, so it is infinitely easier to transport stuff for me. If you can shave off couple of thousand, i can buy my friends a round or 2 in the evening.

I can't overclock as both CPU and mobo don't support it, and my room is hotter than hell so won't do anything to increase temperatures even further. In fact i thought of adding a HSF (evo 212?) but my miserly nature got in the way and i justified it on overclockable nature of my rig.

F&D A520 2.1 is available which is the same one i think you suggested is for 1738 in NP. So going for it, as price difference is minor, but i hope it is worth it.

And I meant rewrite able dual layer DVDs (if such a thing exists, my last desktop was in college had a CD RW drive and i remember the whole hostel utilized it to burn stuff)

500w psu might be sufficient. Make sure you select the right brand of psus.

You can buy a proper heatsink+fan even if you dont OC. A cooler cpu always lasts long and performs better.

Negotiate on the graphics card. Its over priced.

Maybe I missed something, but why not one 2TB HDD instead of the present two 500 GB HDD ? More economical.

Are you sure 500W will be okay ? I know i won't be overclocking, not even the GPU. Won't touch anything other than Corsair or Seasonic (dunno if its available there, if it is the 520W would make me safe won't it?)

I knew it, but i m thinking if i m not overclocking, i want to save every paisa.

ya, i graphic card is a bit much, but dunno but i got it from the net somewhere, must be the old rates.

the two drives are there because i want to dual boot into win 7 and OSx. (will try to hackintosh it). Read its better to have separate OSes on separate drives. Will probably end up buying one 250 gb instead of a 500 gb because I m trying to install OSX just for a laugh and don't foresee spending too much time there, too many games need catching up on win 7! (mybe will surf the net, if only because i heard viruses and malware are rarer in Macs)

^ Mate you can install two OS's on the same hard disk. And yes go for a single 2 TB. its more economical. Now is not the time to splurge on hard disks just for casual fun. HDD prices are still high. And you might get a 500w power supply for 500 bucks or 1k less but he gs600@4k is a very very good deal IMO.

And yes bargain on the 6870 since it is indeed overpriced.

Without overclock you will be able to run a system with 500W PSU of known brand without any issues.

Limitations:
1. You cant' CF, SLI ever on a 500W system.
2. OC as already stated is a NO.
3. High End cards like HD 6990, GTX590 and few other require higher Wattage PSU so you cant get those. (They are way expensive so most don't bother with it anyway but just telling upfront).

in NP, people force you into their shops and when you tell them you did research on net, they tell you to go to costtocost

papul1993

not a newbie.....
People here laugh when you tell them that you researched on the net. "Net ka items yhaan nahi milta. net me hi kharid lo".

Nehru place price compare between ctc, smc and ce

no myth, the mobos i wanted are not available, so my hackintoshing dreams lie in tatters. i will now decide if i want to go ahead with a i5+7850 rig or wait for 660 ti to be released. (which will support hackintoshes)

Anyways here are my estimates that i collected from costtocost(ctc), smc international(smc) and computer empire(ce)

The costtocost guys were nice, SMC international (1st floor) were rude (brusque rather). Leaning towards Computer Empire as the guys were helpful. But the shop is on the 2nd floor and you have to go through narrow stairs and hidden and i wouldn't like to carry my 24' inch screen with all other parts through all that. (went to 205 meghdoot shop mybe try will their other shop).
I just wrote the components names that the shopkeepers themselves wrote or told me. I would have scanned the pages but not very legible writing. i edited somethings so a rough comparison could be made.
