Buying PS3 now??

Hi All,

Lately, I am starting to think about having a console at home specially after realizing the fact that consoles indeed have an upper hand in new releases and also better games than pcs (I am a hardcore pc gamer and yet thinking of a console too)

I have no/less experience with console controllers. So I would also like to know the learning curve on the device.

And most importantly, PS4 is already being launched and may come in Q1 2014 in India (probably), is it a good idea to buy a PS3 now?? I am interested in a Move Kit alongside..

Also, I have seen some sites listing of PS3 320GB slim for 20K with move starter pack, is it a good deal or do I need the 500GB space?? I have also seen 12GB consoles, but will avoid it as the re-sale value may diminish a lot if I upgrade it to PS4 on a later stage.

Please advice me my best option in consoles for now.

Regards,
Rakesh

All that depends on your tastes and habits really.

The learning curve is easy enough and is not much of a problem.

Yes. It is a good idea. The PS4 won't have BC and the PS3 has a great library of games to back it. Most of the good stuff on the console is Japanese so you may or may not end up liking it.

Will you be downloading games from PSN? I'd recommend getting the 500 GB model because a lot of the good stuff doesn't get a physical release in India(eg. Ni No Kuni).

If you are interested in motion controlled games/pointer games the Wii is the far better choice. It has a much better library of games that use motion/pointers than the Move. There is nothing on the Move that can compare to the likes of Super Mario Galaxy, Madworld, Skyward Sword, Metroid Prime, Sin and Punishment etc.

Edit: I'd like to add that the 3DS is the console I'd recommend that people buy the most. It already has an amazing library, is still being actively developed for and a good ol fashioned Nintendo blitzkrieg is coming soon.

I know that PS move fall short of titles currently.. But I am sure it will pickup as PS4 might aim for motion development for the simple reason that Kinect is much better launch than the dildo wielding gaming on PS move.. :p I am not looking for a ninitendo really as motion sensor gaming is just an add-on I would love to have for my wife and may be children too :p (currently do not have any)

And regarding the downloads, cant we free up the space before putting anything new into the disks?? Also, Can we connect an external disk to PS3?? (might be a mundane q but there is no harm in asking, am I right?) :)

+1 to dead5's advice on motion gaming... the Wii's games have far better motion control implementation compared to Move.

However I would still suggest the PS3 over any other console for someone who has been an exclusive PC gamer... simply due to the amazing variety of quality exclusives; there's bound to be something for everyone. From indie art stuff like Journey, to AAAs like GoW and Uncharted, to JRPGs like Valkyria Chronicles and Ni No Kuni, I'm pretty sure you'll find something you'll like.

However, take it from a someone who was recently introduced to a gamepad.... there is definitely a learning curve, especially with the camera control. I bought my first gamepad for Darksiders 2... and even though it's said that hack-and-slash games are meant to played by a gamepad, initially I had a lot of problems, but after a while it gets okay, and eventually you do find that a controller is better for such games.

Shooters are a completely different story though. I'm guessing from the DeathAdder in your sig that you have played your share of shooters... playing an FPS or even a adventure-TPS like Uncharted on a pad will definitely feel strange when you are used to the speed and precision of a mouse. I switched to my mouse for the shooting sections of Darksiders 2. However, I'm sure one will adapt after a period of time, and as I said before, going through that learning curve is worth it- the games are, after all, amazing.

PS: Do keep in mind that you can buy a Wiimote for the PC, and run ALL the Wii games via the Dolphin emulator.... on full 1080p with antialiasing. After a bit of tweaking with the settings, playing the game on the emulator is arguably better playing it on the WIii.

that was a nice read.. kept me interested.. :) thanks bro..

anymore suggestions??

BTW, does all the ps3 even slim (not ultra slim) 320 GB has a wifi on it??

More game suggestions?

The inFAMOUS and Killzone series, MGS IV, LittleBigPlanet, Okami HD and Heavy Rain are all titles which received critical acclaim... check the PS3 Metacritic and consider those that are exclusives. Keep in mind though, that like on the PC, there will always be games on the PS3 which may not be liked by every critic, but might turn out to be your favorite. (I'm talking about stuff like Dragon's Dogma, etc)

And yes, as far as I know, every PS3, except maybe one of the launch version has Wifi.

Also, is it necessary to have the bill or will sony honor the warranty with the stamped sony warranty card itself or do we need both to avail any warranty?

I couldnt agree more with this, somehow I never really got around to playing the FPS with the controller on the console, but then I primarily bought my PS3 for the arcade games, which currently includes the entire FIFA franchise and some of the racing games, still prefer to play the FPS on my computer, but I have seen many computer gamers adapting to the controller, no reason why you wont be able to.

The only downside I see is, why not wait for the PS4, unless there are some exclusives you are looking to play, in that case get a second hand PS3 get done and dispose or hang on to it.

Dismissing Nintendo just like that would be ...silly to say the least. They publish games across a wide variety of genres including Platformers, FPSs, Action Adventure, Strategy, RPG etc.

PS3 games that I would recommend are:

Ni No Kuni
Valkyria Chronicles
Asuras Wrath
Bayonetta
Vanquish
Revengeance
Anarchy Reigns
The Namco Tales games
Disgaea
Tekken

The PS3 is third only to the 3DS and Wii when it comes to quality JRPGs.

I'd recommend staying away from the Uncharted series as the gameplay is absolutely horrible.

No amount of space clearing can turn 12 GB into 25 ;)

Nintendo caters to a different kind of gamer.... PS3's exclusives are more Mainstream

Nintendo is still king of platformers(and due to Capcom's support grindy skill dependent action games) too :). Just because they cater to a different audience does not mean that they should be overlooked just like that.

What does me being an otaku have anything to do with me finding Uncharted's gameplay horrible?

Otakus are mostly biased against "mainstream" stuff, whereas the Dudebro mainstream gamer is against JRPG's and Anime based games.

Hehe something like that. Now i understand why people mentioned "Uncharted's gameplay is horrible". Before, i used to scratch my head thinking how can a sane person pass

Noun
otaku (plural otakus)
(fandom slang) One with an obsessive interest in something, particularly anime or manga.

Where does it imply bias against mainstream? I do enjoy quite a few mainstream games including, but not limited to: Far Cry 3, Max Payne 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Civilization 5, Total War: Shogun 2, Doom, Quake, Assassins Creed, NSMB, 3D Mario and The Legend of Zelda. I dislike shitty uninspired dudebro shooters that bring nothing to the table in terms of gameplay,

Uncharted has horrible gameplay because:

1. The camera absolutely sucks.
2. The guns don't control well and have poor feedback.
3. Annoying QTEs that kill you if you make a single mistake.
4. Melee combat is essentially wait and counter.
5. The camera suddenly switches angles in platforming sections screwing everything up.
6. The platforming itself is nothing special. Coupled with the camera, this means a really frustrating time for players.
7. Drake goes from a nice caring guy to a cold blooded mass murderer in a matter of seconds, really hurting immersion.

The movement system is the only interactive part I can give Naughty Dog credit for.

You misunderstood me; it was not my intention to undermine the Wii's library, it's just that, as Commander pointed out, to an average PC gamer new to consoles, the PS3's library will appear to be more "mainstream", for lack of a better word.

Also, as I said in my post, if he wants to play Wii games, he only needs to: buy the game (and a Wiimote, if need be)----> create an iso-----> Use Dolphin to emulate and play HD resolutions. His GPU and CPU are more than capable of giving a constant 60 fps on any Wii game, with a bit of tweaking.

As far as you opinion on Uncharted's gameplay, well, different strokes for different folks. :|

You misunderstood me. That comment was directed at rakesh_ic. You may have noticed that I separately demarcated the part of the post directed to you :).

As a PC gamer owning a Nintendo platform makes more sense to me because you actually get more different experiences instead of the same old shtick. But thats just me :|

@underlined: True.

@rakesh_ic: If you do decide to emulate Wii games, don't forget to do the part in bold :).
