Any card better than ATI HD 4870 & nVidia 9600?

gokranjan

Right off the assembly line
I have a low power rig with these specs:

* Processor: Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.0 Ghz
* Mobo: Intel g31 (single pci x16 slot)
* Ram: 2 gb DDR2
* SMPS: 300Watts

The best card I have found for the above config is
*ATI HD 4870 and
*nVidia 9600

Does anyone know of any card that outperforms these cards for the given rig?

Pls share ur geeky:doublethumb: advice:!:

I don't thinkg HD4870 will run on your SMPS. do let us know how many PCI-E power connectors are available

and the CPU/memory and mobo are kind of too less for such a card. so, check nvidia GTS250 and HD5770. Still, you may need to upgrade your PSU.

For his rig I will recommend HD5670.

@ OP - what PSU do you have ( brand name and model ) and what's your maximum budget ?

300W of branded power is the minimum needed to drive a gaming graphics card. if its cheap local one or maybe from some branded PC, PSU will die very moment the PC is turned on.

I think E2180 is a bottleneck for high-end graphic cards. Till cards like 9600GT, it should be fine.

Intel: Pentium Dual-Core E2180, Celeron E1600
AMD: Athlon 64 X2 4000+, 3800+, Athlon X2 4050e, BE-2300

this gives a general idea how slow the processor is.

& i second ico. anything over 9600GT will suffer cause of the extremely lowend processor.

You need a SMPS bro, instead of a high end card. Then add few bucks & get a 5570 or anything higher. Probably card will cost lesser than 4k & smps will be 3k.
