Nvidia did this in the past, you know. An employee at Nvidia I know [online] (and no he doesn't share secrets with me) posted a video in which an AMD GPU was blown up using C4. (he has access to that stuff for a reason I won't disclose).

Compute and good performance in Linux with open source driver. My first criteria is open source support always. If I see signs of HD 8950, then I'll get HD 8950.

Rumours indicate that the 8000 series will be OEM only and AMD will skip to 9000.
