Thanks all for the suggestions so far. It was finally decided to opt for AMD a10-5800K. With that in mind, can I ask the experts to suggest the rest of the rig please?
Please make sure:
1. The MB supports 5.1 audio
2. Possibility to add a GPU in future
3. RAM - 8GB (will a 1600 mhz be good one or can a 1333 suffice?)
4. HDD - 1TB
5. Need a UPS (for 30 mins)
6. A good monitor (full HD of 22¨)

If you dont want a graphic card choose intel because of decent integrated graphics
If you want amd get fx 8320, fx 6300 would have been sufficient but currently not available in india
The best processor for your work i5 3450/70 ( intel 2500>2000 on sb i5's)
but with fx you will need a graphic card

And if you are not gonna game anyways get a8 5600k, even its igp beats hd 4000
anything above hd2000 can play full hd video on cpu side I think

Not sure if this answers my point :) I thought A10 5800 has a better iGPU.

Now to ask a simple question straight: For what exact purpose can one use AMD A10?

A10 is equivalent to i3 in processing capabilities and its igpu is faster than any other retailing cpu. As the only difference between a10 and a8 is their igpu, a8 has similar processing capabilities, and its igpu is still better than anything intel has to offer. A8-5600k can play content upto 4k which is 4 times hd resoulution. The only scenario where its better to use a10 is gaming. If you want to play games like gta4 etc get a10. If you only want to play pinball, pla fhd videos get a8
so i summarise
cpu capabilities A10 5800k= A8 5600k= i3
graphic capabilities A10> a8> hd 400( intel fastest igpu)

A10 is used in htpc form factor, budget gaming, budget computing

Excellent reply :)
Actually I was suggesting my friend i3. But he was insisting on A10 5800K. Now again back to my question:

dell st 2240l
toshiba 1tb hdd
corsair xms3 2*4gb ( for amd 1600mhz makes a good difference)

Not many fm2 mobo are available online. Tell me what options do you have. Will take a look at their sites. But almost all mobo support pcie and 5.1 channel audio. So 99% you will get everything you want from the cheapest mobo you can get.
I still suggest to go for a8 if you are not gaming

well found one

3. 1600 MHz ram will be better as the iGPU will also be using this ram so a faster ram will be better. You should get at least 8 GB ram with a10 5800k. My suggesstion: G.Skill ripjawsX 1600 MHz at Rs. 3400. If this is over-budget, then get 1333 MHz 8 GB G,Skill ram at Rs. 2700.

4. Seagate Barracuda 1 TB (3800-4000)
5. APC 600 VA (2200). 30 min backup eyes closed.
6. Dell ST2220L at Rs.8500

Replace the PSU with CX430v2 at Rs.2600, it's a much better quality product.

Absolutely no need for this (bold)
4gb is enough. Click here
There you go. 1.2k saved

get the fastest RAM possible within budget igpu will use this

Can you please elaborate this ? How (and how much) will it be beneficial ?
AFAI see, 4gb is simply enough for the OP
EDIT : Sorry, didn't read properly. You were talking about fastest ram :p

Well for iGPU it thot it will be good to havr 8GB RAM. Let me see how we can handle this. Thanks for the info.

Ok. now this leads me to think...between 4GB 1600 or 8GB 1333 which would have the best performance for this rig?

4gb*2 1600mhz. Just get xms3, its the cheapest one with heat spreader and 1600mhz frequency and you wont have to upgrade ram again in this machine's lifetime. Dont skimp on ram in trinity it can seriously hamper performance and its so cheap anyways :-D

And dont get a single channel ram, it will be 10-20% slower than dual channel so 4gb*2 1333mhz> 8gb 1600mhz

Bro if you decide to go with AMD A10-5800K APU get the fastest ram possible in your budget as the performance of igpu increases with faster ram.Just check this Review: AMD A10-5800K Trinity: why it needs faster RAM - CPU - HEXUS.net .......IMO 1866Mhz would be the sweetspot but its difficult to fit it in your budget. One more thing if you decide to go for 8gb ram its better to go for 2x4gb module than a single 8 gb stick.

For getting HD 3000 or HD 4000, you need to purchase minimum of 2500k or 3570k which alone costs op around 14k and out of his budget I've suggested 8120 or 8320 processor looking at OP's requirements. A multicore processor is also a better futureproof solution too.
I am not with A10 5800k here as it is never intendent for CPU intensive tasks and rather for budget gaming PC . But as per my understanding, OP's requirement here is cpu intensive tasks, not gaming. FX8120+AM3 motherboard roughly costs same as the A10 combination. OP can easily add a gpu like GT 610 at 2.5k with the setup for 1080p playback.

Cilus, i can understand your suggestion (I could do this only after some reading in the net). I now clearly understand that A10 is more for graphics and FX is more for processing. I guess for the requirements that we have, we would need more processing power. Which means we have to do it from first with a FX :)

On the side note, I did look at i3-2220 and to my surprise I see i3 is better than A10, barring the GPU power. Do you think that I can replace the A10 rig with an i3, considering the fact that we need more CPU power? Also will it be wise to add a GT 610 with i3 for our requirement?

No, i3 is only powerful than A10-5800K where applications are not multi-threaded in nature, or they can't use all the available CPU core available.

Have a look here: AnandTech | Bench - CPU

Don't go by the Sysmark Benchmark results, they are biased towards Intel architecture and apart from Intel, none of the companies like AMD, nVidia don't support it.
