A USB Hub that handles HDD

I have a 7-port USB hub, and an HDD that is external and interfaces with the computer using USB.

I have evry less USB ports on my lappie so i need to connect the HDD to the hub. But the minute is do that, it seems to be zapping all the power out of the hub, and disables all the other devides attached to it!!

Now i got two options:

1. COnnect the HDD directly to the lappie, which i don;t wanna do.
2. Inquire about a USB hub capable of handling externl HDDs.

I understand that HDDs are power hugry devices and all, but here is the weird part....both the hub and the HDD are powered externally. They do not draw power from the USB hub....so what is causing this to happen!! How do i troubleshoot this!!?

Hubs usually creates issues in certain unknown scenarios.

dont connect the EXT HDD to Hubs , connect directly

ok, let me go in a different direction....how about USB device servers....are these available in india yet? Which company, what price??

USB device server are some what expensive AFAIK

Ya i know...saw one from Silex America when browsing for them, but not available in india....125$, and capable of handling 15 USB devices...also gives you wireless access to all devices connected to it...i won't ever have to attach anything to my lappie ever again....but not available in india!!...well worth the bucks considering its utility!

come one, i don't believe it....there isn;t a USB hub made exclusively for 'heavy' devices like HDDs!!?

ok, one more direction,,,,that y-shaped cables that convert one USB connection into 2 so that the device can draw more power...anyone have any luck with those!!?

But again, why the power-hunger when both devices are externally powered!!!!!

ya , there are good HUBS , u can go for it

like BELKIN usb hubs are gr8 , it wont culprit

Ok, I've a cheap USB hub. Its four port and it connects to my CPU. (Mine is a desktop not lappy)

Initially I used to get those connection out, not activated probs. But not now.
At any time My mobile and a maxtor 500GB/WD1TB external HDD is attached to it.

Once in a blue moon it refuses to accept them but it works...
For laptop, my got one USB hub from HP, I/he has never tried it...
So, can't comment.
