@Vishal
its standard 512 gddr3...click on the graphics cards in the list for details. Dunno why 8800GT is costlier though, but i guess that nvidia is going for a ATI/AMD Radeon 4850 kill with 9800GTX....
though AMD has won the performance war according to reviews on anandtech.com n other review websites, it may lose in price war.:sad:

@johnjjx
ya bro...thts gud news 4 consumers :smile:, i only wish newegg and other budget sites had presence in India.

Abt my comp query.I am planning to go to Lamington Rd, Mumbai (about 6 hrs frm Nasik,3 dealers here quoted 13-14k for a q6600,so i got the point)for buying parts, any suggestions about haggling are welcome ;-)

heres what i think will suite my needs:

proc : E8400 (8.5k)
mobo : abit ip35e or asus P5k (dunno abt abit service) (7.5K)
Gpu : 8800GT(or 9800GTX if below 12k) (12k)
Ram : 2 gb ddr2 dual (3k)
Hdd : any 250 gb sata 2 (2.3k)
PSU : CM 600 (extreme, as only 1 GPU and modest config) (3.1k)
cabinet : i need one with many fans for cooling.iball gamer? (1.7k)
monitor : dell 20" (12.5k)

ill use my old kb/mouse,APC 500 UPS , Liteon-moserbaer DVD drive as all these are above budget. I wanted PCIe 2.0 mobo below 8k but only AMD based mobos have PCIe 2.0 .will 8800GT perform as good on PCI x16 ?

You can get a 9600GSO for just 6K in India. It's much better than an 8800GTS.

dude , only galaxy 9600GSO with 8 mem chips can be modded to a 8800GTS 512mb and still it doesnt match the 8800GTS .. for 12k budget , 9600GSO is certainly not a card of choice. .stick with 4850 / 8800GT / 9800GTX.

IMHO, AMD 5600+ or Phenom X3 8450 , 780G, 4850 is the best choice for gaming.

780G + 4850 in hybrid crossfire will easily blow away 8800GT or 9800GTX.

Yup, with the 4850 beats 9800GTX even on stock. So itll be hell better with the 780G with upto 30% performance boost on rendering.

thankx for ur inputs guyz :)

@desiibond ,dOm1naTOr
are u guyz sure AMD(Phenoms) >INTEL (E8400) for gaming? (with ATI 4850 ofcource :)))
if so, is it ok if i go with phenom (X4)? as they are quad core....
and plz suggest a nice AMD mobo too..

i can wait till end of july for a new comp ( for ATI 4850 ), but not more..will 4850 be available in July?

Yes.

Hybrid CrossfireX certified graphics cards: *game.amd.com/us-en/crossfirex_components.aspx?p=1

Hybrid CrossfireX certified motherboards: *game.amd.com/us-en/crossfirex_components.aspx?p=2

Hybrid CrossfireX certified PSU's: *game.amd.com/us-en/crossfirex_components.aspx?p=3

Wait till 4850 arrvies and then you can choose whether to go for AMD/ATI based setup of Intel/nVidia based setup or Intel/ATI based setup.

and yes, Phenom 8750 x3 beats E8400 in gaming and 3D applications.

And when combined with 780G+4850, it's a winner.

Only problem is that Phenom is not a great overclocker.

yes. was aware of the problem. I think the latest revision (1.1, i think) of the mobo's from Gigabyte solved the overheating issue by deploying a better heatsink.

@ SKA, AMD 7XX series + phenom + AMD Grfx card makes the spider platform which boosts the rendering performance by 30+ % if HD 3XXX/4XXX cards are used with AMD 7XX chipset.

see post #12 in this thread.

Just wait for the 4850 card to come out. There will be Hybrid crossfire tests done by users and you will be able to come to a clear decision.

@harry,desii,
ya i believe waiting and watching will do the trick, make things clear. Visited the amd forums and some guy already has HD 4850 with 780g, but there are some problems. But these can be sorted out through next catalyst drivers, here

in the mean time i can also look out for: GA-MA78GPM-DS2H:cool:
