for 6k you can get the lumia 530
for 10k the lumia 630 and lumia 620
id extend if i were you and get the 620 personally

After some time I want to buy one tab as well so I thought will keep phone budget at minimum.
Tab for regular browsing and mobile for basic browsing and some features.
I don't thin will spend anything more than 7-8k on mobile phone.
Also need useful apps and youtube I'm not sure if windows phone will suffice for these.
I know that Android is not so user friendly but at the same time I haven't had any experience with windows phone.

^Get Android one especially red one from karbonn it looks gorgeous and is suitable for female user and install launcher 8 which your mom can easily operate it is a win win situation for you.This way you can get windows like experience and will not miss any apps.

No point in buy those old phones. better buy a Redmi 1s for 6k or Zenphone 5 for 10k.

^not recommended,karbonn phone quallity isnt that great
launcher 8 is nowhere even close to the experience on a real windows phone
its like putting an iphone launcher on an android,not recommended
as for apps thats a major myth about windows phone and has drastically improved

When we are getting better specs with Android phones for almost the same price. Why is it that Windows phone are so expensive? Is it the brand?

If you buy a phone, you only get a phone,

but if you buy a Redmi 1S, the options are unlimited

1) you can use it as heater
2) can cook omelet on it, warm tea and coffee
3) Iron cloths, its works great
4) Winter is coming so keep Redmi 1S under you bad to stay warm
4) Melt Ice with it, if needed
5) and sometime you can make call and play some game

windows phone is very user friendly
i gifted my parents and grandparents windows phones and they all love them,they all had android,BB etc earlier and werent comfy with them
windows phone and ios are very well suited for older people as well
im sure your mom will love a windows phone preferably a 620,630 or a 730(even 520 and 525 are good but the screen isnt very good)

yep 620 is the best overall especially the camera and screen
525 only if you are ok with a camera without flash and lacklustre screen but 1gb ram is a plus
though even 512mb phones do pretty well

i highly suggest getting the 730 if you can extend,its a great phone and is a massive leap

its the higher quality camera,premium polycarbonate body
830 is massively overpriced though
730 is priced very well,its better than the moto g 2014 imho and the extra cost is totally worth it because the 6.7MP carl zeiss on the 730(and 720) is an absolute beast,often beating higher MP cameras from most androids

Too be honest my budget was strictly around 6-8k. But since you and amjath suggested 620 I was ok to stretch the budget little.
Since it's for an elder I wanted a decent phone without any lags. It may not be needed for gaming or taking high resolution pics.
Primary purpose apart from calls maybe to take photos and little bit of music player.
I didn't want to invest on an android phone since somebody here suggested that a windows phone maybe easier to use for someone who is not so techy plus not so good reviews for Android One phones.

Best place to buy.

windows phone never lag even on low end hardware and do basic stuff perfectly!!
if you dont need the extra features on the 620, the 530 and 630 may be better buys imho
im not suggesting a 525,520 because they have poor screens which alot of people dont like,good phones otherwise

i think the 630 is a perfect fit

Moto G is ok,nice for younger people who want an android,larger screen is a plus,confusing settings and UI for older people is a minus

windows phone is the better choice overall for older people,its interface etc is easier to operate and is no-nonsense sorta phone
630 is good enough unless you want camera flash

I'm still not clear why flipkart has prices ranging from Rs 10,900 to Rs 14,000 for Nokia 620.
I see Nokia 620 available for around 9k in ebay. But I had some people telling ebay need to be careful.
The only major difference between 620 and 630 is the LED Flash that's it?
I see difference around 1-2k between this models.
I think if I can get hold of Nokia 620 for around 10k somewhere I will settle for it.
Kindly advise.
