Is it simple enough to allow novice users to make and receive calls without any issues?

What happens if one recharges the phone with rs 49 continuously for one year? Will they cease to provide all services as the min recharge amount of rs 1500 was not satisfied?
Which company SIM card your mom's phone has? All major Tele companies are provide unlimited calls on prepaid. I pay 400 for 3 months of free calls and 1GB internet daily. But you if just want to experience Jio then go ahead.

That phone will be used primarily for calling or sending texts occasionally. Do you think it would be suited for this?
I read a lot of negative reviews about the phone on Amazon-most buyers were complaining that it starts malfunctioning within a few months of purchase and reliance's service center refuses to honor warranty on various grounds.
Since the phone won't be subjected to any kind of heavy usage, how long is it probably going to last? Also how's the battery backup of this phone?
No. It's not suited for anything.
Yes, call quality compared to my 13yrs old Nokia 1110i, it's good. But everything else isn't.
What do you think? Reviews are negative because product is crap.
How long it will last? Toss the coin. Quality of the product is worse.
Have you visited Jio phone service center? It's like a fish market. Too many people. Guess how good the phone would be to have that many people in the service center.
Why don't you buy Nokia 3310? Sure it costs more but its 3310, you can have peace of mind by spending more.
Going by the reviews other 4G feature phone model (AFAIK one from Nokia and one from Micromax) aren't good either. Instead of spending close to 6k for Nokia 4G feature phone, one can get Redmi 5/6A.
The reason i wanted to get the jio phone for her is that she makes frequent phone calls to friends /relatives and so the calling balance gets depleted rather quickly, thereby forcing us to recharge it often.
Also are there multiple variants of the 1500 rupees' worth jio phone, manufactured by different companies?
Pretty much every company has unlimited calling pack. May not be as cheap as 49 per month, but they do have. Even if you're using Jio sim on some other phone, you won't be getting this 49/- plan. This 49/- is more like a bait. To use this cheapest plan, you have to use the worst phone.
Yes, there are more than one variant.

Texting is pathetic. I can type text in my Nokia without even looking. But with Jio's pathetic keypad, can't type properly even when looking. It doesn't click when you press the key or get pressed multiple times. It's so laggy. You would think the key didn't get pressed and will press again, now the character/number appears twice. Don't mistake the last line. It's laggy and the keypad is crap.
Going by the terms, they will ask us to return the phone. It's been more than a year since they launched it and I haven't heard Jio did that or if anyone returned the phone after one year and ready to pay 1000/- plus GST as early return charge. Have seen youtube videos where retailers explaining how to process Jio phone return.

Nokia 3310 is good if calling is your primary purpose. Can't comment about the rest of the features. My friend uses the same for calling only.

Hello. I need a phone with a large screen, above 6 inches, preferably 6.5 inches, and a dedicated SD card slot (apart from two SIMs).

I've found two phones: Asus ZenFone Max M2 and Honor 8C. Both have 4 GB RAM, 64 GB Storage, a dedicated SD Card slot, a 1520 x 720 screen, and the same camera (13MP+02MP / 08 MP). The Honor 8C is Rs. 8K, while the Asus one is Rs. 8.5K. Both have a notch :( I'll load LineageOS on the phone (if it's available). Which of these two would you suggest?

I have an Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1, which has an FHD display. Would the lower resolution of the above two phones be noticeable? The Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2 is 12K, but even that has a notch.

Check xda forums but I suggest dropping both options & instead go with note 7s or better note 7 pro.You can even take a look at mi A3. Btw you won't get max pro m2(at least not fresh stock) because asus dropped its production after numerous complaints about its hardware/software.

Popular devices always gets it's own device forum on XDA

You can request new device forum here on xda

Try every custom os/rom and then setup mobile after that..
I use resurrection remix as it's heavy on features..
Also not all custom roms are available on xda.. do search for official device forum and other forums (like 4pda.ru etc) on google..

Don't buy 720p display device.
Get realme, redmi mobile.. sale is on

Who said that? Subjectivity aside, experts mostly agree that redmi camera(note 7s/pro) capture more "natural colours/details" compared to "enhanced/artificial colours/details" captured by realme phones but then those photos may look better to some people compared to the natural ones from redmi.

Note 7, Note 7S and Note 7 Pro all have a hybrid sim slot; Mi A3 has a 6.03 inch screen and again a hybrid sim slot.

Any info on whether Asus has totally stopped production of the Max Pro M2 and won't be producing any more, or is it just a temporary halt?

Realme 5 seems great - 4 GB Ram, 128 GB storage, 6.5 inch screen (but 720 x 1600), 5000 mAH battery, and a dedicated SD Card slot - for Rs. 12K. Realme 5 Pro has 4 GB / 64 GB :( , a 6.3 inch screen (why smaller??), 4035 mAH battery, again :(, for Rs. 14K. The non pro one seems better except for the lack of FHD screen.

Any reason why there are no ROMs for Realme 5? Have any of you tried making your own custom ROM? The LineageOS page has a guide on how to do it, and I've been thinking of trying it out for quite some time, but don't have 100 GBs space on the laptop...

Max Pro M2 is most likely not produced anymore. Realme(& the likes of oppo, vivo etc) has locked hardware/source code/bootloader & that's why there are very little to no custom roms.Developing a custom rom is much harder than imagined & requires a lot of time & knowledge(reason why there are certain popular models for which there are so many custom roms but not for others).

If hybrid sim is only problem then you can use sim Adapter, I used that for my Redmi Note 4..
The only reason I am not using that anymore, memory card much slower than phone memory. Installing apps and used as another internal storage is not suitable.
Also x265 10bit 12bit videos lags (audio video sync) problem.

If you can't find any good phone with dedicated memory slot in your budget, don't mind about the hybrid slot and get the best one in your budget. Move media files once a month/quarter to external hard disk or pendrive.
