Xbox 360 controller woes

I purchased an original wired 360 controller from ebay for Rs 2.1k..
For a while now, it had been working great but recently, it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting endlessly until I hit a BSOD
If I plug it in my laptop, no such error occurs and the controller works fine..
I really dont wanna submit a claim to the seller, what are the chances that the controller is the culprit ?

it could be windows/driver issue or a hardware issue.

if you can, try a live Linux CD (Mint), if problem persists, get the motherboard checked.

Yeah good idea, ill try booting in Ubuntu and see if problem persists..
Anyways, can USB device problem occur if there is improper grounding ? sometimes when I touch the side wall of my cabinet, i get a mild electric shock.. This happens ONLY when I connect my Monitor (NOT CPU) to the power plug or UPS (tried both)..
AFAIK, the 360 controller works properly on the laptop.. Im not sure what to do guys, Today is the last day to return the 360 controller and get a new one (via shipping).. What should I do ?

If your controller functions properly on your laptop but acts erratically when its connected to your pc,then its quite obvious that something is wrong with your pc itself-the fault doesn't lie with your controller in all probability.Lack of proper earthing can definitely lead to serious problems in the long run,so you should try to get it fixed as soon as possible (although i don't think the issue that you are currently facing is occurring because of it).

Try playing a game on your laptop with the controller-if you face no issues while playing the game, then you can rest assured that the controller is ok;if however it malfunctions again, then you should have it RMA'd as soon as possible.
