Outdated Processor ? Really ?

10% worse performance makes it outdated ?

In GLBenchmark HTc One scores just 4fps more than XZ. That makes XZ outdated ?

The performance gap between One X and GS3 was greater than the performance gap between Htc One/GS4 and XZ, yet people didn't say " Oh One X is using such an outdated CPU".

Even though XZ may be 10% slower it's still butter smooth .Look at S4 videos on GSMArena, it's the laggiest of the lot between HTC One/XZ and S4. Dialler app still takes 2 seconds to open just like S3 due to the heavy touchwiz skin.

So benchmark performance doesn't necessarily mean smoother real world usage, especially when difference is minimal.

I'm not denying the fact that XZ is the least powerful of the lot, but some people are exaggerating the difference quite a lot.

Let's look at some GL Benchmark scores of pre release Xperia Z vs HTC One

GLBenchmark 2.5 Egypt HD C24Z16 - Offscreen (1080p):

XZ - 30.4 fps
One - 34.1 fps

GLBenchmark 2.5 Egypt HD C24Z16 - Onscreen:

XZ -31.3 fps
One - 31.6 fps

GLBenchmark 2.5 Egypt HD C24Z16MS4 - Onscreen:

XZ -17.4 fps
One - 18.3 fps

GLBenchmark 2.5 Egypt HD Fixed Timestep - Onscreen:

XZ - 27.9 fps
One - 28.7 fps

GLBenchmark 2.5 Egypt HD Fixed Timestep - Offscreen (1080p):

XZ - 26.9 fps
One - 30.2 fps

GLBenchmark 2.1 Egypt Classic - Onscreen:

XZ - 58.2 fps
One - 61.1 fps

GLBenchmark 2.1 Egypt Classic - Offscreen (1080p):

XZ - 78.9 fps
One - 87.8 fps

Fill rate - Onscreen:

XZ - 839
One - 958

Fill rate - Offscreen (1080p):

XZ - 825
One - 963

Triangle throughput: Textured - Onscreen:

XZ - 51
One - 52

Triangle throughput: Textured - Offscreen (1080p):

XZ - 49
One - 52

Triangle throughput: Textured, vertex lit - Onscreen:

XZ - 41
One - 43

Triangle throughput: Textured, vertex lit - Offscreen (1080p):

XZ -41
One - 43

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, XZ is SOOOOOOOOOOOO Slow Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Allllright !
^Source..?
And I clearly mentioned in my post "by the end of the year".. It will certainly look antiquated against Snapdragon 800 by then..
I definitely agree there is not much of a difference b/w S4 Pro and Snapdragon 600..

I don't think so. Do you know that Galaxy S4 is not OPEN GL 3.0 compliant ? :) I don't see it being future proof.

Design wise One > XZ (personal opinion)

And random, why are you quoting GLBenchmark for CPU performance. It is a GPU benchmark. Both XZ and One have Adreno 320. Still One performs better

Talking about lags, Note 2 doesn't lag. Those demo S4 units were not running final software version

Talking about contrast ratio, GSMA says the contrast ratio on Butterfly is 1100-1200. HTC One will have similar if not better.
S4 AMOLED will still have deep blacks. And Samsung has provided a simple setting to change colors to a more neutral tone. And Sony also showed their 4K AMOLED TVs at CES which according to Sony is the best screen. So Sony also believes AMOLED > LCD.

People dont use spen or multi-window on note?? If you are talking about people who are not power users, they will not use the screen calibration app too or care for dev support

Talking about updates, have a look a 2012 flagships like SGS3, One X and Xperia S and their update status. Sony skin is minimal but they are very slow to update

Regarding Entropay's comment, SGS4 has 8 cores and not 4 cores, hence octacore. Cores are never indicative of performance. 4x A7 cores can handle light apps hence there will be no need for A15 core most of the time. But A15 is there to satisfy the power hungry apps. Again quad A7 will have better battery life than S4 pro or Snapdragon 600 so Samsung counters the benefit of Snapdragon's asynchronous SMP architecture

No one mentioned about the fact that SGS4 has a 2600mAh battery?

Both S4 pro and S600 have same GPU yes, but S600 320 is clocked higher.

Also if you read my post, 2013 there is a complete changeover wrt update scene for Sony devices. You shall see that in the next few months.

And as for color tone, SAMOLED does produce too oversaturated colors, S4 is even more saturated than S3. So you can imagine how "great" the screen will be. So in my books, and anyone else's who actually cares about image quality the S4 screen is simply the worst of the bunch. Not too mention it's also extremely DIM

Comparing a 45000$ TV to a 5 inch phone makes no sense, does it ? You do realize you can't compare a TV screen to a phone screen. A phone doesn't have any video processing whatsoever. It's just the panel and software calibration in a phone.

As for battery, it's only 200mAh more than XZ. LG Optimus G pro has 3100mAh battery and yet managed only 2 hours more than XZ in GSMArena battery stamina test. So, at best the GS4 will match LG Optimus G pro. Nothing more

Anyways you want CPU performance numbers?

Here goes

Samsung Galaxy S4 gets the early benchmark treatment, first scores are average

It's at par or worse than XZ running beta software. Final software will improve scores no doubt but they would still only match HTC One or be a lil behind.

And btw, Xperia Z beta scores leaked way back in December last year and it still scored 21k in Antutu and 60fps @nenamark 2, same as retail.

When did I say that it won't improve ?

It will, but still won't be faster than One. Will match it at best.

So at best 15% faster than XZ in one or two benchmarks. A custom ROM/ kernel will narrow the gap down significantly. So the performance gains are only marginal at best and can only been seen in benchmarks, not real life.

I'll ask a simple question

- What can GS4 do that XZ can't ? Performance wise

And again, no Open GL ES 3.0 support on the GS4 which Adreno 320, Tegra 4, Power VR Series 6, Mali T6xx etc do support.

Don't say S-Pen and Multi Window blah blah. Less than 1% of owners find that useful. All such stuff look good on ads, not real life. Most smartphone buyers don't even play games or do anything more than calling/whatsapp/take pics. Forget "creative use with S-Pen"
Lol dude.
S Pen not good in real life! Well, I honestly purchased the N2 for it actually, it makes life easier, a lot. I don't have to scratch for the pen anymore, anywhere I'm carrying the N2 I don't have to worry about taking notes anymore. I'm not even going there where it can do some other important stuffs as well, like acting as a mice in the stock browser, air view in email and SMS and all.
Multi Window- Well I don't know. I don't use it, because I don't need to use it. But that doesn't mean it's an ineffective feature or something.
Take my N2 for a month, then comment back :|
PS: Sorry, I didn't notice your avatar! You must be a Sony fan. Hmm....in that case.....leave it!
I also love Sony, I'll never buy a T.V.or a walkman which isn't Sony, but I'm NOT fanboy!

Potential Samsung S4 owners might wanna read these two threads from Galaxy S4 XDA forum

Difficult to develop for GS4? - xda-developers

codeworkx will no longer make CM for the S4. - xda-developers

Short Summary -

No Elite developer will be supporting CyanogenMod development for Galaxy S4. The guys who brought CM10 (not fully stable due to Samsung's faults) to S2/S3/N2 have decided not to buy any Exynos based Samsung device in future.

Codeworkxx/Gokhanmoral/Entropy512 who were the top Galaxy developers have now chosen to develop for Sony Xperia Z instead due to Sony & Qualcomm's open arms approach to developers.

Of course for those that LOVE touchwiz need not worry, but for those who want CM should look elsewhere OR get the Snapdragon S600 based models from USA

R.I.P Samsung :)

Not having cm is not the end of world!and just for the record This also doesn't mean that exynos version won't have cm - the device is bound to be popular and there will be many new devs (i admit that they won't be as experienced as entropy and all) and like almost most other android devices out there - unofficial ports are bound to come. There is no point in blaming an OEM for not releasing their pripeitory sources.
Z is a great device and has many a things like display /design/skin/ruggedness to its favour against s4 (and so does s4) - but the claim - "get z as you can flash cyanogenmod" seems childish (- nobody here said to get z to flash cm, was, just saying - no offense)
But I really never liked the idea of paying premium for a device and then going through all the hassles like unlocking boot loaders, flashing recoveries installing roms, tweaking them etc
