It's for my friend. He has chosen Dell Vostro 1550 but I asked him to wait for few days saying I will open a thread asking if there is any better model in this price.

1. Budget - 35k
2. 15-16" size
3. No brand preference
4. Mainly for home use, so primary tasks are just "general"
5. Maximum resolution in this budget
6. Will be buying online, need carrying case, will be using Window (no problem if it is not preloaded)

I have searched first two pages for laptops in this budget. These are the models suggested

HP Pavilion G6-2005AX
HP 430 - QG623PA
Samsung NP300E5Z-A0HIN
Samsung NP300E5Z-S08IN
HP 2000 2116TU
Asus P53E-S0101D
Dell Vostro 1550 (His pick)

Which one will the best in this budget or you can suggest some other model...

as this is for home use, just check a few things: 500GB+ HDD (750GB-1TB), 2-4GB ram and a fast processor.

check these two:
Asus P53E-S0101D comes with matte display just like the Vostro
Samsung NP305E5A-S01IN comes with 1TB HDD and Windows 7 HP but the processor is a weak one.

pick the first one as it is real VFM even if it doesn't have the latest processor.

Sam,

You think it's too much for home use? Yeah, me too felt the same when he showed the config and price tag.

Thank you.

One question, comparing this Asus and Samsung NP300E5Z-S08IN
Processor variant - 2430M vs 2450M (totally I have no clue what it means)
SATA vs SATA II
Integrated Intel HD 3000 vs Dedicated graphic card GT 520MX

If you think Samsung is little better, Is it worth that 3k more over Asus?

Arora,
No, he doesn't.

And one more thing,
HM65 vs HM67 chipset

Thank you. I kinda understand SATA, chipset, graphic cards and processor variant. But still... Does Samsung worth that 3k more over Asus?

just 100-200Mhz faster processor. doesn't make much difference.

SATA vs SATA II

both are SATA2. don't go by flipkart's info. they have all mixed up. SATA1 is history now and SATA3 is useless unless SSD is used.

Integrated Intel HD 3000 vs Dedicated graphic card GT 520MX

both are almost same. with the 520 one can game better but end up with a laptop that sucks when it comes to battery life. Better to go with laptop without any dedicated GPU unless they game.

If you think Samsung is little better, Is it worth that 3k more over Asus?

no. not worth it. Matte display is anyday better than a glossy one and this is a business class laptop. So even if it weights a bit more (haven't bothered to compare weight) build quality will be lot better.

And one more thing,
HM65 vs HM67 chipset

not much to the end user. Just more USB port and SATA3 support. shouldn't bother about these in the laptop space as its impractical to add more ports on a laptop. that will involve cutting and soldering stuff.

Samsung NP300E5Z-A0HIN & Asus P53E-S0101D are priced almost same.Samsung has a bit better processor so you can consider this too.

Also consider HP Pavilion G6-2005AX .This laptop comes with genuine windows7 preinstalled. Moreover it has better connectivity options like 2 usb 3.0 ports(which can be handy in future). This laptop would also give you good battery life.Street price of this laptop should be around 30-31k.Other minor points in favour of this laptop are 7200rpm hdd and bluetooth v4.0.But compared to above two laptops it comes with lesser storage of 500gb.The processor is bit slower than 2nd gen i5 but you would never notice it for general works.

Yes that Samsung one that is suggested in above post is also a very good option, even I was gonna post it here, so the OP can have some other options as well. And also Samsung laptop gives a better battery back up.
But the HP G6 is not recommended as that AMD processor stands nowhere near 2nd gen i5

But there is one thing which is not there in both Asus and Samsung laptops, it is USB 3.0 port

The A8 processor is good enough for all the general purpose tasks.Sure 2nd gen i5 is faster than it but there are also instances where an a8 wins over a 2nd gen i5 due to GPGPU compute. Moreover HP G6 2005AX comes with better connectivity features and not to forget a genuine license of windows7.

If op does not need all these things then either the Samsung NP300E5Z-A0HIN or Asus P53E-S0101D would do.

I suggest you to take Lenovo it will come 35k for good configuration and it is best one to use roughly and i am Lenovo g570 model laptop is using and it cost is 37k.
