memory bus is needed to communicate with the memory & its done via the onboard memory controller. & the HT (QPI in case of Nahalem) is used to communicate with the NB. & in turn NB communicates the graphics card or the video out ports (only in case of AMD IGB based chipset).

also are you sure this board HT will work at 3.0 standard speed & not get clocked down to something say 1.0 or 2.0.

Another thing about Hyper Transport of Direct Connect is they also connect the multiple cores present in the Processor die. So decreasing HT speed will also reduce the speed at which the cores inside the processor are communicating.

Ya but with intel i series, the memory controller exists in the processor die instead of motherboard chipset (sb or something). This removes any memory lags associated.

but will it retain its HT 3.0 when you plug in an AM3 processor. please confirm yaar.

yup. Intel's Core i* memory controller are best. maybe cause they support just DDR3 memory whereas AMD support DDR2 as well as DDR3. so a hit is inevitable.

Yes , i knew that. Amd had integrated memory controller since athlon64 days i guess. But intel was using them on board since pentium upto core 2 duo's and quad's. Ram was commuicating with mem controller in northbridge via FSB( front serial bus). In this method there were memory latencies(wasted clock cycles) but intel uses higher bus speeds as a counter.

Architecturally amd was superior in this ground until the advent of nehalem and its derivatives that we know today as i series.

My valuable pie of advice , just dont spend desktop like with 25K if so its for casual gaming u wont satisfied much (or) in other words it doesn't worth

If u already have system then i suggest u to save some extra money get medium power rig ! THEN U WORTH IT !!

I think all chipsets above 740 will support 3.0 but all below including it will be downgraded to 1.0.

Vicky in the days of intel FSB mem controller was in northbridge not south.

Thanks jas. Post edited. Southbridged housed ich or input output controlling hub whereas northbridge has imch or integrated memory contoller hub which also included the integrated graphics controller in mobo's having vga.:smile:
