Xbox 360's RROD query.

People, I'm thinkin' of buyin' an X360. But, I heard RROD's a major let-down. Is this happenin' with new models? I mean, the "manufactured recently" X360s. BTW, is it even worth buyin' an X360 and playin' with a 24" CRT TV or my 19" Widescreen monitor? What are ye'r suggestions? I'm buyin' X360 'cause games release earlier than in PCs and it can play *sniff* games . Please tell me.

The new Jasper models don't get RROD as much, but it's still an issue. Not sure if India got Jasper models yet, I recall people saying India still has the old stock yet.

Even if you do get a RROD, MS will replace/repair it for free for 3 years since date of purchase.

I think games on the 19" will look better, as long as it has DVI or HDMI

Any units with 12.1A are 100% jasper models. Jasper versions are way stable and cool which comes with 65nm core.

To be honest are you going to mod the console and play pirated games?

if yes then go for the 360 as it can be done but will void the warranty.
if no then the ps3 slim is the way to go.The exclusives like mgs4,killzone2,uncharted 2etc have no match from 360's camp.THE PS3 runs much cooler,is reliable and way more vfm BUT cannot be modded yet owing to its complex architecture.

^Are you kidding me.. Halo series has a bigger following then any other game or even Star Wars.. most of the GTA Exclusives are on Xbox 360... XBox Live rocks.. PS3 home is crap...Go for PS3 only if you need to watch Blu-Ray discs.. or play God of War III... and oh yeah.. Don't forget that Gears of War II is Xbox Exclusive...

halo is solid in terms of storyline but gameplay and graphics department doesnt hold a candle to the likes of resistance,killzone 2.THE PS3 also is going to have a gears of war killer known as QUANTUM THEORY.Have a look at the following ps3 exclusives and decide:

1.uncharted duo(drakes fortune & among thieves)
2.resistance duo
3.metal gear solid 4(game of the year)
4.agent(unreleased developed by rockstar)
5.heavy rain
6.gran turismo 5(gonna beat the crap out of forza 3)
7.M.A.G
8.Quantum Theory
9.The last guardian
10.Final Fantasy xiv(even a version of xiii is ps3 exclusive)
and many more......
Believe me any 360 game is no match in visuals compared to uncharted 2 or killzone 2 and more is yet to come.Sure xbox live is better than psn right now but all is set to change!!

You're joking when you say "Gears of War" killer, right? I have seen the gameplay videos of that game and believe me, you can't even put it in the league of Gears of War.

Its actually the other way around.Ive played gears of war in pc with settings maxed out.Gears of war uses unreal engine 3 which is old but quantum has one specifically designed as its own.Its gonna surpass gears in both story and gameplay not to forget graphics.Believe me dude but if you are a 360 fanboy then gonna hurt. PS3 exclusives are way better than 360.

Your comments make you sound like you're a PS3 fanboy. I didn't advocate anything to the OP. He specified he was looking out for Xbox 360 and query pertaining to it. It was you who suggested something otherwise.

UE3 may be an old engine, but it has become way more popular than you can ever imagine. Without even playing Gears of War 2 and without even knowing the story of Quantum Theory, you're saying it's going to surpass it. Looks like you are seriously in delusion. I'm willing to bet my 360 if that game surpasses the reviews of Gears of War 2. I'll see you on the other side when that happens.

PS: I'm not a Microsoft fanboy. In fact my PS3 purchase is planned for next year when God of War III is out. I'm a gamer and call it as I see it.

The only reason that would've lured me into buying PS3 was that earlier model was compatible with Linux installation.. we can't do that on the new PS3 slim..

You do realise that it got derailed the moment PS3 was brought into picture out here?

It's been a quite a routine on numerous forums, that I visit these days, where people instantly jump to PS3 suggestion, even if the OP has something specific planned for 360. I was merely clearing off few "misconceptions" before it lead to another system war.

I never started a war nor went off topic. Th op querried about 360's red ring of death so i suggested to go ps3 way.

The reason i said ps3 is reliability and ability to play more genuine exclusives.Lets assume that the op has a decent pc since he's goin for the 360.Now lets look at some 360 exclusives...
1. splinter cell conviction
2. alan wake
3. left for dead 2
You can play these games on the pc and they are not exactly multiplats.So a ps3 buy lets you play the super exclusives which you cannot play in any other system and are of top notch quality eg. mgs4,god of war3,uncharted 2.........list goes on.

But if op wants to mod 360 then he better go with it as ps3 currently offers no modding options.THE CHOICE FINNALY DEPENDS ON HIM8)

Vicky, I understand your concern. Although you have to realise that these are electronic products and can go bad at any point of time. The new Jasper chipsets have a reduced die size and hence lesser heat dissipation. If it goes bad, Microsoft has it covered under 3 years warranty. I have a Jasper based 360 myself and invested in it because Microsoft claims it has reduced this issue. As for the OP, it's not just about the exclusives, but it's about getting some delayed multi-platform titles right when they release. Taking that into consideration, he must have decided on the console. So instead of recommending an alternative, why not address his query?

Also not like the PS3 is totally reliable, either. It has a 1 year warranty provided from Sony. A lot of users had been claiming that it totally stopped reading Blu-Ray's after prolonged usage. You have a whole thread dedicated to it in IVG forums. Look up for it. My friend's day one launch console died on him after a year. He invested 30k in it and now it's collecting dust, while he got another PS3.

Anyway this is all I had to say. Since I have the OP set to my ignore list, I couldn't really read his full query either. So apologies for barging in.

buddy you are always welcome to give your opinion and you didnt barge in but expressed your views.

As far as op is concerned multiplatform games are released at the same time for 360 and ps3.its the pc version which gets delayed.So it completely depends on him to go for the console which suites him right.Since the jasper models are cooler and warranty covered its good to go that way.

Depending on the gametypes suitable for op he can go either way.

@Vicky: Yeah, I know PS3's graphics are better than X360's, but it's more VFM than PS3 'cause only somebody's havin' "power" to buy games for that, know what I mean? I'm sure gonna buy legit games and I ain't a *cough* gamer. Hell, PC kicks both the consoles' a$$es. THE only reason I'm buyin' a console is ACII has been released for the consoles! BTW, I'm thinkin' of goin' for a brand-new PC, but I'm waitin' for NVIDIA's answer. 'Cause only NVIDIA GPUs has the great PhysX and don't tell me it's a waste, it's awesome! Yeah, X360 can be modded, but PS3 can't. But PS3's havin' GT5! That's the only let-down in X360 'cause even SHIFT's better than Forza 3. If I buy a PS3, it's only worth for GT5 - for me - otherwise, it's full waste of bucks.
