Hi,
I m a First Year IT engineering Student looking for a good mobile phone within 15000/-

5800 meets all my requirement
Camera is no big deal for me

I m a big sms junkie so i would jus like to ask d current 5800 users whether i shud go for this or not ??

Also,
Besides the touchscreen is there a button keypad provided ?? if Not plz a mobile with similar features which has touchscreen as well as button keypad ( mini or qwert )

Regards

i personally feel touchscreens arent comfortable for sms'ing
so my advice go for other mobile if ur sms junkie
other wise 5800 is a great phone

Touchscreen of 5800 is pretty useless IMO, I've seen my friends punch the hell out of the screen to get the phone to respond and dial numbers, send SMSs or even do a simple task of playing a file.

Samsung Ultratouch seems to be a better option if you want a touchscreen phone (it's a capacitive touchscreen phone, ie. is as smooth as the iPhone's touch screen, not the stupid resistive one of 5800)

yup I too think that if u are sms junkee thats send more then 20 sms a day better get something with qwerty key pad or at-least normal keypad.
Ultratouch can be good for u:smile:

Go with E-Series which provide full qwerty under your budget. It will be good for all task except for multimedia.

No you won't get touchscreen in E-series. By multimedia I meant, camera won't be good but if paired with a good earphone you can surely experience good audio even on E-series.

i'm jst normal build and hence have medium sized fingers ... i find the qwerty on the 5800 just amazing ... send only a few msgs bt email a lot ... alteast 20 a day from my fone and I think its just brilliant ... not as comfortable as a physical qwerty as the e63 but hey, good enuf ....

Thanks a lot guys.
But I have one more question. I may sound foolish to u all.
Do touchscreen phones wear out, I mean. does the touchscreen have problems after a span of 1 or 2 years?
The reason for asking this question is that I m planning to buy a 5800 & I don't want to regret later.

This ain't a foolish question but a good question. Its better to get full information before you purchase anything.

Touchscreens don't wear out but yes you need to be cautious of their use. Sweaty or oily hands may cause the touchscreen to malfunction or misinterpret the touch. A non-touchscreen phone is always a better option if you think you are the one who just throws the phone on the bed after returning home.

Nice answer. Also keep in mind that touchscreen are made up of few 'layers' . So incase of falls , its more likely to get damaged.

My 5800 have survived quite a few drop from 2-4 feet though.
