Yes, rumors of the Facebook and Twitter integration were true.

Today's Apple event brought with it new iPods, and to power all the new hardware and features is a new iTunes. Hitting version 9 today, the latest Apple media software brings with it a slew of new features.

Those who love music and opt to buy full albums can enjoy iTunes LP, which basically packs in additional materials on top of the music tracks, such as liner notes, videos, photos, artwork and other things.

"iTunes 9 is a great iTunes release, with innovative features that make using iTunes better than ever and iTunes content richer than ever," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "iTunes LP, for example, lets artists share more of their creativity with fans and gives music lovers the feeling of being immersed in an entire album with art, lyrics, liner notes, photos and videos."

A similar sort of thing is available for movies as well, called iTunes Extra, which include extras much like the special features on DVDs.

iTunes 9 also introduces Home Sharing, which lets you transfer music, movies and TV shows among up to five authorized computers in your home. Those sharing a home network can now view up to five iTunes libraries and import their favorite content directly to their own libraries. Apple said that it has also improved its Genius music shuffling feature.

Those who upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1 will also have more advanced syncing options, such as being able to organize apps as how you want them to appear on your iPhone using drag and drop (finally!).

iTunes 9 is available immediately as a free download at www.itunes.com.

It will still be bloaty on Windows.

Songbird can do everything for me without any bloat. :) And Songbird is only 13MB to download compared to iTunes' 88MB. :p

guys, I have been trying itunes 9 and it certainly looks better. Only thing is that you need lot of ram. in xp on my PC ,it was showing 40Mb of so of ram usage, but when I killed it, some 300meg of RAM was freed. That's not at all a worry for me as i have 4Gig of ram and 300Mb is less than 10% of what I have.

if you have itunes account and purchase songs, it opens up a damn new category called "LP".

I would say that it is a hundred times better than itunes 8.

i have a couple of questions- 1.for windows media player we get an option in the context menu "add to windows media player playlist"...is there anything like that in itunes...something like "add to itunes library" or something...is there any 3rd party tweak that can do so?

2.suppose i am playing a song in itunes...i go to file- add file to library, select a file & open it...itunes automatically switches playback to the newly added file.is there any way to stop this so that the new file is just queued in the playlist..like it happens in windows media player?

iTunes is seriously heading towards a bloatware label.. 90 MB for a mediaplayer is ridiculous.. and it only plays MP3, AAC, AIFF, WAV and Apple Lossless.. There is no support of the awesome FLAC and Ogg Vorbis (open source) codecs.. this shows us how committed is Apple towards Open Source (sarcasm!)..

Offtopic
Now even Microsoft Office supports ODF.. but still no sign of ODF in iWorks... Apple takes so much from Open Source and gives back nothing but Webkit..

If you want a media player ... then use WMP with ffdshow or JetAudio...and the godforsaken vlc
if u have apple devices with you then u opt for iTunes... there should be no other goddamn reason... wats so good bout iTunes if u don't have an iphone or something? (Thats my iTunes bind!)

For media Player I use KMPlayer - which I think best of it's class :p

Though itunes is kinda bloated many people use it as they consider it to be the best for their apple PMP devices but Apple should seriously consider making a Itunes lite version with multiple codec support for both audio and video. Only then it would be a complete media manager for apple PMp devices :p

Yeah even apple devices like iPhone are able to play almost all the formats..(yxflash app?)
I was watching True Blood xvid noTV episodes on my iPhone... simply amazing... iTunes should think out of its small world of codecs

Hi guys,
I am having some songs in my ipod shuffle but dont have backup of those songs in PC.
