Internet portal Yahoo! says it will release a desktop search in the New Year some three months after Google.
According to Yahoo!, its version of desktop search will mimic the Google product but will be extended to cover other personal information that might be stored on the world wide web. Mostly this is expected to be information that Yahoo! will already hold, such as in things like Yahoo! Photos or within Yahoo! Mail. All of which will create an environment to bring together and keep people using Yahoo! services.
Yahoo!'s search tool is based on technology developed by a company called X1 headed up by Bill Gross. Yahoo! has already reason to be grateful to Mr Gross as he was behind a company called Goto.com, which later became Overture, the search marketing businesses bought by Yahoo! for $1.6 billion
