I dnt think it is a good idea to have an external drive of such a huge size. External drives are mostly used to transfer data...you may have a smaller HDD like 100GB for this purpose. Moreover HDD of this capacity could only be used with external power supply which is a headache IMO...

I think u will not use this HDD daily as u said u will use it for backup. better go for External as then it will be used when it is meant to be. Also in that way u can share the files with friends or carry them when u want.

I've fear of virus attack if using as internal...should I worry or not.

I use KIS2011+Avira AV+MalwareBytes Antimalware+RemoveitPro for network security.

^^For mass backup I prefer Internel HDD as they are cheaper and I wont be moving them every now and then.

For daily backup of small files I'd go for external 320GB or perhaps pen drives etc.

@rhitwick
Why do you have so many hogwares ? I use only Avira and Comodo firewall in windows (though havent touched my pc since december last year). Just format ur HDD with ext3 or ext4 partition and save anything u like without any fear. Though btrfs partition will be common in linux scene. I have 1TB HDD for backup purpose, formatted with ext3 partition. Its also good since no noob will ever be able to see you data :p

O Mi God...I never knew someone could be so terrified with the viruses...I understand the value of data...which once lost is very hard to recover...but still dude...so many programs will definitely kill ur HDD :D lol

^Dude, there was a time I had to install OS every day twice, and that was due to virus and a corrupt RAM...

From then I've gone crazy about virus.
I don't care of my PC speed as my Procy+RAM can handle that, but ya....there must not be any virus in my PC.

#1. No intention of moving to Linux, like playing games so XP is good for me. And I don't care who browses my data. My room-mates are mature enough to have babies :-D ;-)

#2. Internal seems to be majority till now. What if I buy one 2 TB internal drive and don't partition it...how will it perform?

^^i m not telling u to switch over to linux. I use windows for gaming and linux for every day to day activities.

partition the drive for the sake of partition manager and performance reason :D

if you want the hdd for regular use then go for the internal ones, else go for the external ones if you plan to buy for backup purpose.

I am not clicking on the poll, as my choice is both depending on the use.

currently 2TB is expensive, go for 1.5 TB HDD(WD Green)!
for Video file, i would say internal as you can then watch them whenever you want as external will be a headache!
