Look man, choice of UPS depends on 2 main things:
- Your system's power requirements
- Your Budget
Now if you have a good quality PSU which has all the latest features like Active PFC correction, Ripple factor correction and all the usual stuff, better go for a good quality UPS, namely APC, a branch of Schneider electronics. They have good generic and Pure Sine Wave UPS but as I said good stuff don't come cheap and moreover since the market is down and prices are up u'll probably find them being sold at much higher price than normal.
Now if your budget is just limited to just a few grands than u r better off with local made ones as long as u can avail warranty on it.
I earlier had a Microtek 1KVA UPS. It served its purpose well. Cost me 3K and worked flawlessly with my old rig where my PSU was of meagre 350W.
Fortnight ago I upgraded to below mentioned config and all hell broke loose as it wan't able to support my PSU. My PSU neede pure sine wave input so I pawned off the UPS and got myself a APC 1KVA Pure Sine Wave UPS. Cost me 13K but now day or night, power or no power my system runs continuously without even a single hitch.
Now u say u just want for limited time backup so that u can just shutdown the rig. Well my friend then chalk out yourself the power requirements of ur rig and then decide accordingly what type of UPS do you want.
