Hello Everyone, I am new here.

I want to buy Ati 5770 graphics card and want to know which psu is enough for this card.

I am using CM 460 watt real power pro 80 plus psu with core i3 2.93ghz, 2 HDD, 1 stick cotssair Ram of 2gb, Mobo dh55tc and 2 dvd writer. I have an audigy pci sound card.

one 80 mm and two120 mm fan running for cooling.

I want to know Is My PSU enough for 5570?
Can anyone tell me exact kolkata price of this card?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply!

Can you suggest me any better graphics card other than 5770?

I like to play games like GTA 4, Crysis, Street fighter 4, batman aa etc with best setting.

I dont want to upgrade my psu.

460W real power is enough... also before buying a graphics card first decide at what resolution u will be playing games i.e tell us your monitor size and will you be upgrading ur monitor ?

Also 6850 is better than 5770...

your current gpu is more than enough to drive your PC. if you want better GPU, check nvidia gtx460 and amd hd6850.cm real power 460w should be able to drive most midrange cards.

I want to play games with 1280x960 resolution.

Can I run nvidia gtx460 or 6850 with my 460w Psu?

@ 1280x960 , HD6850 is more than enough.... also it consumes less power than previous gen graphics cards... so no worries with 460W real power... also i guess it must be able to pull out 550W at max with ease... though this is not the case with CM's extreme series... coz eXtreme 600W even fails to pull out 530W!!! so not sure about that...
I have yet to see any in-depth review on CM 460W real power... from sites like jonnyguru.com and hardwaresecrets.com....

i also am thinking of asking the same question in a new thread but since one has already started so i am giving it here only.

My config:

AMD 955 BE
ASUS M4A78T-E 790GX
TRANSCEND 2 GB 1333Mhz
Seagate 1TB
LG DVD WRITER
All in CM 310 Elite.

Microsoft Mouse and Zebronics non multimedia KBD
Creative 2.1
DELL 23" running at 2048x1152
Ups APC 650w

In future i will add another 1tb and another same config RAM.

Now the PSU. I thought of having corsairvx 450W but not getting it in market. Vx 550w is available .Should i go for it? Also how many hdd i can attach having this vx 550w psu(cabinet will be changed when necessary)

Run a greater than mid-range GPU on a good 450W is pulling it slightly tight. Would rather recommend 550W. Now am not getting into Corsair VX450 and deliver approximately 550W -- and its vis-a-vie its pro and cons. With 550W you have decent head room for once in a while OC, and or expansions. Also you never strain the PSU to maximum.

You can also consider Corsair Vx 450.

VX450w is not available in this moment . i have asked VEDANT and TIRUPATI has given me in mail. so looking forward for 550w.

Edited my post later. Graphics card i will not attach, no qns of overclocking. But how many HDD can i attach with the support of vx 550?

I don't understand why its not available coz its corsairs revised/new entry level - mid range PSU afaik...

also if u getting vx550 then u must get vx550 instead of vx450 if you can afford it... coz the VX series can pull out like 120% of their rated power i.e actually 20% more... in worst case... so will make you future proof also the ripple suppression is best in class at full load conditions also the eff is actually near 85%!!! so its worth buying a vx Series PSU... i m my self planning to get a vx450 for my download rig... :)

Vx 450 in-Depth review @ Corsair VX450W Power Supply Review | Hardware Secrets
also look this overload test @ Corsair VX450W Power Supply Review | Hardware Secrets

vx450W can pull staggering 572W !!! at max which is 127% of the rated power that too at 81.1% eff! -- that is insanely insane!! hence i conclude that vx550 can pull out 680W with ease... in worst case...

about HDD : you can connect as many HDD ur mobo supports with vx550 coz HDD don;t consume that much power and vx550 is more than enough to handle like 5 to 7 HDDs

i am also not getting the reason for unavailability. However want to clear one concept.

Does this 450w or 550w implies that it is drawing 450w OR 550W AC current from the wall socket and there will be a heavy electric bill in the month end.

Here's how the efficiency thing works.

You have a 80% efficient PSU. This means a system (CPU+gfx card+Hard disk etc.) which requires 400w to run, will pull 500w from the socket @ 80% efficiency. [400/500 = 0.8]

If you are using VX550 with a system (CPU+Hard disk only) which requires 150w, then it will pull 187.5w from the socket @ 80% efficiency. [150/187.5 = 0.8]

Power_user_EX is actually just praising the Corsair VX series as they maintain a very good efficiency even when they are loaded with a highly power demanding system. Nothing else.

OF COURSE ..... NOT!!!
The wattage rated for the PSU is the max it can output depending on the load.

Generally a "normal PC" idles around 80W to 200W.

So say ur PC pulls out 300W during peak load then the actual power input from AC wall socket is calculated as :

DC power draw by PC = (AC power from input drawn) x (eff / 100)

let,
d = DC power drawn by ur PC
a = AC power from input drawn
e = efficiency

hence we get d = a*(e/100)

Now lets assume u get an efficiency of 83% at 300W from ur PSU then

Now , e/100 = .83

then 300 = a * .83

i.e a = 300/.83 = 361.44 AC Watts drawn from wall socket when ur PC is using 300W

hence higher the eff lower is power loss , lower is the bill , lower is the heat generated...

BTW what do u think - y did i spent like 9.2 k just for PSU ?? coz of above reasons and also its has :
- 7 yrs warranty
- has 85% eff i.e 80+ silver
- best voltage ripple suppression => i.e more stability while OCing and under heavy loads
- Modular!!!
- Generates less heat
- many more reasons.....

BTW I will be writing an article on PSU buying guide and will post here soon....

@Avi:
If you are not putting a GPU then go with a 450W. 450W means that is can deliver a 'load' of 450W. The efficiency rating of the PSU dictates how much power it can convert to useful output. You will only get those heavy bills if you theoretically pull 450W constantly from the socket via the PSU.

See some rough figure:

CPU 150W
Motherboard 25W
RAM 60W
HDD 40W
Monitor 30W
Total: 305

You are now ways close to the 450W mark. Oh I added the monitor too....! Remove that from the total, since it will not hit your PSU.

Even I wanted to go for VX450 but SMC told me that it was being discontinued. So, I had to go for CM GX550 as VX550 was unavailable.
