I will basically using it for:-

1. Running applications like MATLAB , CAD etc.

2. Internet Browsing.

3. Playing games like NFS , Mortal combat , Tekken , Prince Of Persia , Counter Strike etc.

4. Mobility is required therefore will be avoiding very big screen size but it will be good if the laptop has HD resolution.

5. Should have a good battery life.

Your 4th point contradicts itself !

Dell XPS 15 with 6Gb Ram + i5 2410 and GT 540M + Back light keyboard and Full HD screen. Might stretch our budget but worth it .

In my 4 point i said that i want hd resolution but will prefer smaller screen size , actually it will be better if it will be 14 inch screen but screen should not be bigger than 15.6 inch . mobility is not very big factor in my case i can adjust without it also but performance should be good:) .

Here's something you might want to remember. All games look best when they're set to the native resolution of the screen. A full HD screen will therefore need a significantly more powerful GPU to produce that level of detail. Just sayin :)

SSMAX what do you mean by "HD" resolution ?
HD means 720p or 1366x768 resolution
Full HD means 1920x1080 resolution.

So are you looking for HD or FULL HD ?

You would need OpenGL for CAD?

OpenGL + HP DV6 = Problems

IMO get the Dell with 2630QM.

I remember seeing a thread on notebook forum yesterday about this driver update that solves the problem. The guy said that the problem reappears after a restart.
So they are waiting for a bios update.

The fix is close I suppose.

I was going to purchase the dell XPS15 as you all said but then yesterday i saw the dv6-6121tx from Hp it had i7-2630QM and AMD Radeon HD 6770M (2 GB GDDR5 dedicated) priced around 55k .The GPU in hp is much more better than 2gb GT540m that dell is offering , dell does have the full HD display but should i not go for HP as its also offering HD LED display with Decent pricing .

And what is that opengl issue , i am not getting it????

You can't use the Ati card for OpenGL (yet). Only the Intel can be used.

If you need OpenGL for CAD, get the Dell.
If you want FHD (much better. Internet, Movies and programming is heavenly on that), get the Dell.
Otherwise get the HP. Its much better for gaming.
