Urgent : BSNL broadband query

Hello,
i was thinking of taking BSNL home500 plan tomorrow .is this a good one..
are there better plans. i saw ul900 but its got only 256kbps , so i thought home500 wud be better . what do u say ? which modem shud i buy ? ethernet or usb ? and shud i take any precautions ? and could u tell any other steps that i should know(during these installation procedures) ? and how much time will it take for everything to get set up ?

yes, Plan 500 is now better than UL 900 :(

The Type One Modem will Come with Both USB + LAN interface :D therefore if you dont have lappy them Type one will do :D

and could u tell any other steps that i should know(during these installation procedures) ?

No thing really.. Let BSNL to install 1st .. as they would do the config :p if they dont then search in the forum , as many posts are here to how to set up DataOne BB :D

and how much time will it take for everything to get set up ?

Really depends on BSNL ... as it may take 3/4 days to make u online for BSNL after u submit the application :) or it may take 3/4 years.... lol....

usually it takes 7/10 days to complete hardware installation :) and then another (MAX) 7/10 for Password... usualy with 20days u may get the Broadband :D

my budget aint exactly fixed . wats the speed in airtel ? here my friends say airtel is bad and they are changing to bsnl . so wat do u recommend ? wat speeds do u get in airtel (or other better brand if any) and bsnl ?

thanks.I'm hoping for a quick reply . going that bsnl office in a few hours .....

No idea about Airtel bro,
But strange things are happening with my BSNL Home 500 plan, I started downloading at about 2:07 am and stopped downloading at about 7:45 am... then I went to their site and got shocked to see that they did not consider all the data I downloaded as Night Unlimited data...
What's wrong with them ? Can any1 explain this ?

you plan may have been changed without notification... :(

therefore just take a print out of the page, and contact DE int of your local exchange.. submit a Writen Complain... !!!! Beware and take action before they hand u a huge bill !!!

There is nothing perfect in India Airtel/Tata/bsnl no one will give u a perfect connection. Every one has some problem with there conectivity, I have used Airtel & it's god some day while some day it can give u a hel of experiance how bad they could be.
Personaly I am using bsnl home 250 & it give me some trouble too.
home 500 has a night unlimited offer - which u can face very slow some night because of traffic - it's normal.
I will suggest bsnl - overall with all negetivity - now it's ur choice

Say goodbye to a huge sum of money already. There's little you can do now. Either you pay up or you lose the connection.

Don't get unlimited .Its too slow.
Get Home 500 plan and Modem TYPE IV and use Ethernet.
Once your bsnl account has been setup,search for the latest firmware for your Modem and update your Modem.Then you should see damn good speeds.
I use SmartAX MT 841 modem with good results.

thanks guys . ive chosen bsnl . went in for home500..dint ask abt modem to them . guess i'll have to tell the day they come home...whts the advantage of type4 , is ethernet better than usb ??

i have onboard ethernet , will that do ? or shud i buy something else(not that im keen on it , but if performance is much much greater i'll buy).

Ethernet is the best choice as there is no headache of unstability and driver installs. Just plug in and start surfing.
