Upgrading from P4 to AMD(Budget Rig)

Hi Guys,

This is my first post on Digit Forum
I am planning to Upgrade from a P4 bought 7 years ago.
So my current config is Intel P4, MSI Mobo(845 i guess), 1 GB DDR(400), 80 GB PATA HDD, a Lite on DVD-RW and an ATX cabinet. Apart from this i have a 500 GB WD Caviar Green SATA which i can reuse.

My major requirement of this upgrade is for downloading, casual gaming and storing huge amount of Data. So i need a Mobo with both eSata and USB3.0.

eSata because i have a laptop with an eSATA port and no USB3.0 . And USB3.0 to be future proof.

So i would need a New Mobo, Processor, RAM and a power supply. My budget is 9k and cannot extend . I'll be reusing my WD HDD and would add more HDD once prices come down & also when i have some surplus cash .

I have shortlisted on some things
MoBo: Gigabyte GA-880GM-USB3 (has USB3, eSATA and SATA II)
Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H (has USB3, eSATA and SATA III)
Processor: AMD Athlon II X2 or X3
RAM: 2GB (havent choosen any)
PSU: 350 W (havent choosen any either)

I am open to suggestions but only thing is i require eSATA, USB3 within a budget of 9K. I'll be purchasing most of the components from lamington road, Mumbai or Online(if i get it cheap) this Saturday.

Also if anybody could suggest me a external HDD having eSata.

Waiting for all your suggestions.

Thanks in Advance.

jenson_dj,

A usb 3 motherboard will cost you 4.8k which is almost half of your budget don't think usb 3.0 will do miracle Sata 3 is waste if you are not going SSD way.

go with these instead

AMD Athlon-II X4-640 - 4.3k
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P -2.6k
Corsair 4GB DDR3 Value RAM 1.2k
fsp Saga 350 watts-1.7k
Total 9.8k

why do you need external HDD with esata interface go with USB na.

I guess USB3 is not a major requirement but eSATA is. As I'll be getting a External HDD which has eSATA and my laptop has an eSATA port.

So atleast a MoBo with eSATA is what i am looking for. I can reduce on the processor, so AMD Athlon II X2 should be enough. And my budget can be extended to max 10K(Borrowing 1k from friends)

Thanks 4 d reply. :)
