i want to upgrade from a phenom II 925. i am in a dilemma whether to choose a 1100t or fx 8120.

the 1100t is supposed to be on par with 2600k and 980x when oc'd to 4+ghz..

uses primarily are video encoding and adobe suite(photoshop,premiere, after effects)

help guys..

mobo- m5a97 pro
psu- s12ii 620..

BMG ftw!!
From 1100T you would get better performance. If you want 8 cores & less performance, then 8120.

OC 1100T to 4GHz & it will be more than enough.

but the 8120 trumps 1100t in many benchmarks

It entirely depends upon the kind of applications you are gonna use. For most of the day to day applications 1100T is more than enough and FX 8120 delivers slightly better performance due to its higher clock speed. Again the gain is not consistent, sometimes roughly same with the 1100T. Now 1100T is more than 2K cheaper than FX 8120 and you can get a good cpu cooler like Hyper 212 EVO on that price to push the 1100T.
BTW, what motherboard and PSU you're currently having?

i have an asus m5a97 pro motherboard and a seasonic s12ii 620.. also have a hyper 212+ from the current rig.. i can afford till the 8120 budget.. so what would you recommend... the 1100t can be oc'd to 3.8 easily whereas the 8120 to 4.5 easily.. below 1.4v.

seeing that u need for multimedia,I would recommend the 8120 (i too have it and use it for maya and 3dsmax).It will help you do your work faster and better than the 1100t.And plus,Bulldozers make the most of the 9 series motherboards.

how is the power consumption and any support problems with windows?

this quote from hardwarecanucks is stunning!!!! that at 4.5ghz!!

but when running the aforementioned Prime95 stress test, it pulls an immense 550W from the socket. If we also add a fully loaded GeForce GTX 460 1GB to the mix, that number spikes up to almost 800W.

^^ with a GTX 460 rig ( at idle ) the power consumption is a bit surprising IMO ;-)

here with a GTX 590 and FX-8150 @ 4.818 Ghz it's 586w

Now at 4.6 Ghz and GTX 580 it's 432W which is the most believable figure IMO ;-)

Well i use a 800w PSU and have a descent gt550 graphics.
I don't matter how much power it takes,i am in such a hurry that i need a fast paced processor.

Both 1100T and FX8120 has almost same performance. But one thing goes in favor of FX8120 is the support for the newer instruction sets like SSE 4.1, AVX, FMA etc which might help in Photoshop, MAYA and the video encoders with AVX and SSE 4 support.

I want to upgrade my pc configuration. Due to my buget limitation now i only change Motherboard, Processor and Ram. So i choose
Processor= AMD Phenom II X4 965BE
Motherboard= Gigabyte GA890GPA-UD3H
Ram= Corsair 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz
:!:
Is this combination good ? Because the bulldozer review is not (except 81xx) good. And i am waiting for the other release of HD7000 cards so they can fit into my new M/B. Currently i have HD4850 card.

Please give me suggestion .........:cool:

Gigabyte GA890GPA-UD3H is a good mobo but make sure you get the rev 3.1 which has support for AM3+ cpus. CPu and ram combo is good also and with that mobo you can even have 2x gps in future. Any AMD HD 7 series gfx card will fit on that mobo - if you have any more questions create a new thread ;-)
