I suggest you opt for a Windsor (AM2) core AMD X2 4000+ with 2MB L2 cache. Couple it with a decent mobo like Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe and load it up with decent DDR2 PC6400 (800 MHz) RAM and you are ready to rock. Personally I think 4800+ wont be any good with 1MB cache. And no point in sticking with older 939 pins as future belongs to DDR2. And in case you want to opt for a Conroe, wait for couple of months so that kick-ass mobos are out in the market.
The 4800+ with 1 MB? That's 2 MB AFA I know, if you're talking 939. The 1 MB equivalent is the 4600+ (512 x 2), which is also a 2.4 GHz part, codenamed manchester, the 1 x 2 MB part is called Toledo mayte....
^ DDR2 offers greater bandwidth which will be used with time pal... DDR is basically on the road to "kaputdom" with both Intel and AMD adopting DDR2.... Benchy DDR 400 and DDR2 800 and you'll get my drift... DDR2 was sucky in its earlier avatars, not any more...
