Currently in talks with some OEMs, and planning to announce something significant within the next few months.
Ubuntu has incereased its activities in India. The company which has made Linux one of the most popular operating system on desktop PCs is all bullish about India. During an interaction with a Canonical spokesperson, when we asked about Ubuntu's plans to open full-fleged office in India, the spokesperson told us that the company does not have any such plans as of now, but they already have some developers working from India. The company will be studying the market and if there is significant demand that requires a presence locally, they just might as well come in.
The company has recently appointed an India-based PR agency, Alliance PR for promotion activities in the country. When our correspondent asked about the move, the spokesperson said, "This is more in the lines of spreading the awareness about Ubuntu. We're currently in talks with some OEMs, and planning to announce something significant within the next few months."
So, is this something in the lines of the Dell-Ubuntu deal? He said, "Yes, but may or may not specifically with Dell. Let's say we're in talks with some of the leading OEMs and we'll announce something as soon as it's finalised."
