Police control some riots outside OT.
FOOTBALL fans have clashed with police outside Old Trafford stadium ahead of tonight's game between Manchester United and AS Roma.

Police with batons were called to the scene to quell several hundred rioting fans on the street outside the front entrance.

About 1000 Roma fans had been gathering outside the stadium all day before rioting broke out as fans clashed with police.

Police, including mounted and dog units, managed to diffuse the situation but smaller skirmishes are continuing.

Despite the riots the game kicked off on time.

There were reports of fans with minor injuries, as well as rival fans hurling missiles at each other.

The ugly scenes followed last week’s violent clashes in
the first leg of the Uefa Champion’s League quarter final in Rome.

Hundreds of British fans were left bloodied and bandaged
after they were beaten by Italian riot police last Wednesday.

A statement released by Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers patrolling at Old Trafford ahead of the Manchester United versus Roma match this evening have been required to deal with a number of small and isolated incidents.

"The incidents are being dealt with as they happen and are being resolved quickly.

"Some arrests have been made in order to maintain the peace at the ground."
