I would rather suggest
Intel COREi7 processor(i920) + Intel DX58 motherboard @30K.
2GB DDR3 RAM @3k
500GB HDD from SEAGATE@2.5k
COLLER MASTER cabinet @3k to 4k
rest all of ur choice. in 20K

^^if he spends 10.5k for GPU like GTX260, he will be left with 10k everythying else including a monitor which is not at all possible!!!

Ya I agree to that, but I believe that if he wants to upgrade INTEL system(as he recommends INTEL system) tomorrow, then he wold be left with no choice but to go for COREi7. So better to invest slightly more now.

What you are suggesting him is all AMD based systems, which is of lesser priority for him compared to INTEL.

I would not suggest you Core I7 system now. Very shortly Intel is going to release Core I5 mainstream processors based on [FONT=verdana, geneva] Lynnfield architecture. It is based on LGA 1156 socket based on P55 chipset. So none of the today's Core I7 M/Bs are going to support the new Processors from Intel.
So I think AMD would be a better option at that point of time.

If u want to spend 60k after all,go for nothing less than INTEL core i7......
Nothing beats it currently....

hmm. afaik, core i9 supports LGA1366 which means once the current rig gets old, core i9 will be ready. So, my choice is core i7 for that budget.

Here's a PIC of CPU scores. Green are AMD

Also there is a configuration suggestion.

YOU BETTER SPEND MORE MONEY IN MONITOR THAN UR CONFIG - A CPU + MOBO of UNDER 15 K is MORRE than enough for regular PC USAGE (including gaming, movies etc.,)

--> Its better to buy a inexpensive VALUE FOR MONEY CPU + MOBO now and then upgrade regularly - cause even the futuristic/high end CPUs will hog in future.

--> But there is no performance degrade for quality monitors and speakers.

Go for Dell's 2209WA 22" monitor e-IPS for 16k or wait until a cheap 24" IPS/VA panel hits the market!

How about this config?

Q8400, MSI P43, 4GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, GTS 250 512mb, LG DVDRW, Microsoft KB/Mouse, Zebronics Black Jack, Corsair/ Cooler master PSU

8750+3800+2500+4500+7245+1075+700+2400+3600 = 34570

Keep the remaing 25,430 for good monitor, great speaker and sound card.

Q8400 is very poor in handling games. Better pay 2k more for X4 940 and save in motherboard. That will give lot better VFM.

btw, you sure about X4 965's benchmarks. They are not at all in the zone for that processor.

Here's an updated table.
Gaming scores added. Test Rig mentioned.

As you can see, Q8400 clearly beats X940. So Q8400 is better solution.
And desiji, its not X4965 - it is X49650!

@emmarbee.. he's not going to play games at 1024x768 or 1280x1024 res.. no body plays at that res when one is having a budget of Rs 60l.. Q8400 sux.. 4 MB L2 cache.. moreover no virtualization support..
Q8400-two cores fused together
X4940 - true quad core

Q8400 - 4 MB L2 Cache
X4940 - 6 MB L3 Cache

and moreover Phenom II X4 940 overclocks like hell.. just go online and see the results..

@emmarbee, I am damn sure that X4 940 easily beats Q8400. It actually is neck-to-neck with Q9450 and if you say Q9450 is better for virtualization and AV editing over X4 940, I do accept that (given Q9450 supports virtualization).

sorry btw, I misread X49650.

also, what hellknight said is true. Who is going to play gaming on 1024x768 resolution when he/she gets a 60k rig. That would be the worst thing to do in computing world!!!

Arey my AMD 720 BE beats the he'll out of q6600 in every department and Q6600 beats Q8400 then it is obvious that AMD 940 BE beats the crap out of Q8400 and is almost at par with Q9450!!!

@hellknight - These test scores are just to compare mate; Of course he's not going to play in a 4:3 aspect raio in a 16:9/16:10 monitor.

@desiibond - on what conditions does X940 beats Q8400?
And you too? Cant you see that these scores are just to compare the CPUs and not to know the FPS of games that he is going to play!

@hellknight - E8400 beats Q6600; Q6600 beats E8500; E8400 beats Q9550; WTH? Be specific!
In which app does 720BE beats Q8400? Cause for different apps different conditions - few may use multi cores, some may not.
Like games - there aren't much games that use all the cores EFFECTIVELY. ONLY THE CLOCK SPEED MATTERS when it comes to games!

Also Hellknight, don't compare the CLOCK SPEED, CACHE of INTEL & AMD conclude which is better - cause the proof the pudding is in eating!

2.4GHZ, 4mb L2 intel MAY outrun 2.6 GHZ, 6 MB L2 cache for ex.
