Suggestion For Upgrade[ overclocking mobo + HSF ]

hello people,

I m returning to this forum after a long time, was extremely busy, with job, traveling, family and other stuff.

I have a two year old system comprising Intel C2D E7200 on Intel DG31PR ( Both have a year of warranty left), 2Gb DDR2 (800MHz) + 1Gb DDR2 ( 667MHz), Palit HD4850 Gfx card (1 and a half years Old), Corsair VX450W PSU, Seagate SATA2 640Gb (32 mb cache) + Seagate SATA 160Gb (old) + Asus DVDRW + Logitech Gaming Mouse + Samsung SyncMaster 793MB (17" Flat CRT Monitor, will sell the monitor very soon ) .

Since i m a little out of touch, with current processor and newer tech ( not that i will not do that )

  1. But i wanted to know If it is worth upgrading to Core i3 ?
  2. Or better to upgrade later to core i7 ( when prices come down a bit) ?
  3. Or for now just overclock my current system and run it for another year ? ( both gfx card and processor have never been overclocked)

If u give an option for overclocking, i would like to know which is a good motherboard for overclocking ?? Preferably with G/P-45 Chipset, Will not spend heavily on it, since will be upgrading to Core i7 + HD5870 within a years time anyway.

Any help will be deeply appreciated , thanks in advance !

if you into gaming, if upgrading, either get i5 or i7 from Intel camp. or can wait for AMD 4 core processor with Core Turbo (currently limited to 6 cores only). with i5, theres a simple problem. comng early next year is Sandy Bridges & it'll need a new socket. so H55 & P55 sockets may have an early end.

for now, go with 3rd option. your processor + a 2k HSF like CM Hyper 212 = 3.5Ghz. also your card enough for 17". so its meaningless risk OC a graphics card, if it comes with a stock cooler.

for OC, get a P43 based mobo from MSI. light on pocket. good on OC

Thanks very much Sam.Shab for replying.

Yes i m into heavy gaming, and yes so far 17" monitor was enough for my card, but soon would buy a 19" or 22/23" Full HD monitor, then i may need to overclock the card, and i sure it will serve me well for a year with overclocking.

Regarding, Processor it looks like its better to wait a while.

in that matter i will be looking forward to a good solid overclocking board in 5-6k range.

i m thinking of buying Gigabyte GA-EG45M-UD2H, i don't know about its availability yet, but looks like a good overclocking board, any other options ?
with that i may go Cooler Master Hyper TX 3 CPU Cooler HSF .

Anyone else with any new idea ??

yes, can add a Hyper TX3. Pulsar using it. but keep it as backup. try get the Skythe Katana 3. its better. in terms of price, ~200 bucks more. however no idea about the board.

Sam,
Regarding the i5 future options, i dont think intel will kill its own best affordable processor

they may bring something more affordable. cause its true LGA1156 will be removed from market. and LGA1155 will take its place. now all depends on Intel what they do. or maybe they decide to let LGA1155 & LGA1156 reside side by side.

don't about gfx card but proccy should be OCed!:grin:

don't waste your money on a new mobo with this proccy!

also your card is enough for a 22" as i've also got the same card witha 22" monitor & play games on it too!

its not a good HSF, better go for CM Hyper 212 plus.
