Suggest a PC for design work

Hi we need a PC for our office.

1. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
A: Professional grade 2D/3D design work and a little bit of video editing and casual gaming. The system is for my freelance setup. Software to be used:

• Autodesk Inventor
• Rhino 3D
• Adobe Photoshop
• Adobe Illustrator
• Adobe Flash
• Adobe Premier

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
A: Yes

3. What is your MAX budget?
A: We are looking for 60k to 65k max spend

4. Planning to overclock?
A: Yes

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
A: Dual OS- Windows 7 and Fedora

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
A: Already have a spare HDD (old 160GB plus an external 500GB). 500GB is fine. Would be great if an SSD can be made to fit in the budget.

7. What resolution will the screen run at & what’s the size of the screen you want? If you already want have one and want to use it, mention its resolution and size.
A: Good monitor with good colour reproduction and good gaming performance.

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
A: About 6

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
A: Nope

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
A: Within a month

11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
A: I’d prefer such a thing if it exists- :))

12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
A: Want everything including UPS, speakers/ Keyboard/ Mouse etc.

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
A: New Delhi

14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary
A: If you were to rate your suggested config on a scale of 1-10 (keeping in mind the above mentioned requirements) how much would you rate it and what budget is ideal for taking the rating to near maximum. (e.g. if you think 65k is not enough how much is ideal- note I can’t go beyond 75k).

Nice suggestrion, thetechfreak, +1 for it.

abhayvir, try to get 8 GB of Ram since the type of applications you've mention are highly memory intensive.

Thank you for your replies guys. My friend who is also a 3D designer has suggested me the following config, let me know if it is better or not. His logic is in brackets.

CPU- AMD Phenom X6 1090T @ 8800 (because it overclocks better and is good for 3D design and rendering work)
MoBO- Gigabyte GA 990FXA UD5 @ 12700 (according to him Bulldozer series of processor will work on this board- is that true???)
GFx- Zotac Nvidia GTX460 1GB @ 11600 (because of CUDA and workstation cards do not offer much help in our kind of work)
SSD- Corsair Force Series 80GB @ 8700 (for faster data speeds and better overall performance)
RAM- Gskill Ripjaws 1600 MHZ 8GB @ 3500 (8GB is kind of essential for final renders)
Monitor- Benq G2220HD @ 7200 (he suggest I later add another monitor and make a dual monitor setup- makes sense to me!!!)
PSU- Corsair power 650TX @ 5500 (enough power even if I later decide to put in another GTX 460-- GTX 460 offer best SLI/ CF performance)
UPS- 1KVA @ 3500
Keyboard, mouse & DVD- @ 2000

Grand Total- 63500/-

Awaiting replies.

See the thing is if you go for the config based on the i7 2600k it will OUTPERFORM the reccomended config BADLY

I cant express it HOW VERY BADLY IT WILL OUTPERFORM THIS AMD processor

Why the HACK wont Workstation card wont offer much help for things it is designed for? The GTX460 is a gaming card. And also considering the AMD alternatives availabe for 11k I think its a waste of money.Period

thetechfreak is right here, 1090T is no match for i7 2600K in any kind of application, whether it is 3D working or intensive gaming.

i7 2600K is a Hyperthreaded processor and can process 8 threads simultaneously, so it provides better 3D performassnce since most of the designing sofware are highly multithreaded. Also it has SSE4 and AVS instruction set support which is missing in K10 based Thuban AMD processors. So sofware with SSE4 and AVS support actually gets high performance boost in i7 2600K.

Go with Intel i7-2600k + Z68 if you are buying now. It will beat any AMD processor till date by a large margin.

But if you are gonna get ur hands on BD, then 990FX is a good selection. Just dont spend much on PhenomII now. Go for an AthlonII X4 now and upgrade to BD after a month.

Here i will stick with a Nvidia card because CUDA is little more mature than AMD APP (ATi Stream) and number of software support for CUDA is higher than AMD APP support.
So gtx 460 1 GB is good enough for the Op's purpose.

abhayvir, since game is not in your requirement list, I would suggest you to go for a Workstation Graphics card which are optimized for rendering work and will give you significant performance boost in the type of applications you've mentioned. Assuming your budget is 10K for the Graphics card, my recommendation is ATI Firepro V4800 @ 9.9K in lynx-india

Intel i7 2600k + z68 mobo would give you best performance. and it beats AMD with a great margin...So no need to think about AMD...If you can wait for one month or so..Bulldozer from AMD will be out and that time you will have better value for money ...i7 2600k will be cheaper and thus you can spend more money on other parts...

I dont think lynx-india is a good site....heard many complaints about this site...

But I've purchased some audio goods from lynx. However, the postwas not to advertise Lynx-india but to provide solution for OP's requirement.

Then for you the best option is to go to local market & inquire the prices of GTX 460 as suggested by Cilus.

Local retailer will eat his brain with lot of **** excuses....and if he(retailer) agrees to provide him GTX 460 then he will provide him GTX 460 based any chip GPU that would waste of money....

If he gets from lynx-india what he wants without any kind of problem then in his case lynx-india is good...every retailer has some good and bad in them...
