So we have seen Spread Firefox which is a community supporting Mozilla Firefox. But now its turn of Microsoft's very own web browser "Internet Explorer" which is bundled with all Windows versions.

"Spread IE8" is a new website which has been created to support Internet Explorer. It has been developed by "MeraWindows" which is a Windows dedicated community supported by Microsoft India (as you all know).

Its a nice initiative and you can support IE8 by putting the following logo at your website/blog:

IMO, IE8 is much much better than IE7.
I just hope Windows 7 replaces Vista similarly.

BTW, I'm not going to spread IE8 even if they pay me, because although it's better than IE7, it just can't compete with Opera or Firefox.

I will wait for its v8 final release. Being a web programmer, improvements in IE will add a lot to my productivity, cut down headache, and keep me more happy as I will have to spend less time into 'IE hacks'.

If it was only IE's merit as a browser is to be considered, I would not have bothered. But since majority of users use IE, do. We have people who still use IE 5.5 and expect the world from it. For eg; Even sify iways use IE 5.5 or 6 or so. [And if you have ever been to a sify iway ever, you know how they make you feel as if you have come to just view their ads.]

Forgive me for being rude if I misunderstood. But shouldn't the site be a dedicated one rather than a redirect link back to merawindows itself ? In other words by doing the above you make it look like a traffic sink for a certain article on merawindows. Anyway thats just my 2 cents take it however you please.

^^ I think that is because it's an initiative by MeraWindows. The admin of MeraWindows had posted this on the forum, so I assume it's their own initiative.

i don like ie8 for casual browsing....all its features are copy from other browsers exept activex...............the most irritating thing is it hangs on overload(happens to me...donno abt others).........hope m$ makes it lite wt......

the only thing i like in ie8 is its security.........i trust its in security n authentication more than other browser...ie8 suits me for bank login in n other secure browsing

i wouldn't spread ie8 till it shows of off some feature unique from other browser rather than always copying

At this point of time I am not going to support IE 7 or IE 8.

Now, don't ask me the reason please. Because everyone knows the reason.

Guys

Its just an initiative from MeraWindows to support and promote IE8. They also purchased the domain spreadie8.com to provide a more sensible link instead of that long MW URL. :)

AGREED activex is IE's BEST feature . I hope we get more features from IE like activex

btw are they planning to get rid of index.dat in IE8 ? Specially regarding the porn mode..
I am assuming the spread IE people will know this ..since they are planing on 'spreading' it.

For those who don't know.... index.dat is a file in which all of your internet explorer history is recorded (typed addresses, visited addresses). This file isn't deleted by the 'clear history' option, and cannot be deleted easily by the user. Which means in most PC's, it pretty much has the record of every website you ever visited (porn porn porn).

Why its there?
Your guess would be as good as mine.... :)

Thank you for clearing that. Although I think the initiative is flawed due to reasons I prefer not to discuss on this forum, I wish you luck.

I see. I wonder what new feature did Chrome come out with. As a matter of fact it even copied a feature that IE itself dis-continued. Oh and yeah please show me a browser that has had Slices before IE8.

As far as overload is concerned, haven't seen it as much as Firefox who on start itself consumes 80k+.
