I am using BSNL 230 unlimited plan...I am getting very low downloading speed connected via Nokia 7210 (No 3G) and my friend using the same plan but connected via Nokia 5800 (3G:HSDPA, 3.6 Mbps) and getting speed around 50-60kbps...Do 3G mobiles provide better speed or any other reason ???

There is a trick for BSNL, in which if you have a 3G enabled device. You just need a 3G device and a 2G SIM card, select manual network and register in 3G network or Hybrid. Now you can download at 3G speed and that to unlimited at Rs. 230.

3.5 mbps mean that its high speed downlink packet access which is 3.5 generation technology which enable high speed data download upto 3.6 mbps but in country upto 10.2 mbps for example motorola milestone supports 10.2 mbps hsdpa which is some what similar to enhanced data rate for gsm evolution that is edge will increase download and upload speeds in 2g . Edge is also known as 2.75g which provides speeds upto 299kbps in class 12 and 236 kbps in class 10.

3G means UMTS which supports only uptil 384kbps.

3.5G means HSDPA which supports till 3.6mbps.

Some fones like N73 support UMTS, but not HSDPA.

BSNL and MTNL all give HSDPA.
