i have an onboard 6-channel sound card on an ASUS A7V266-MX motherboard hosting an AMD Athlon 2400+ CPU and a 4.1 speaker system. i do get surround effect (front and rear speaker separation) but the sound effect is low. i mean i donot get much difference between the minimum and maximum volume settings. so, i got to put my speaker volume knob to a higher position. why i am saying this is that, if i connect my speaker system to a cd player, i put it to a low level to get the same output. is there any way to make my system output higher? are the 'speaker volume' and the 'device volume' one and the same in sounds and audio devices in control panel? 'cause, both the sliders move at a time when i move one of them (ie spkr vlm & dev vlm). My earlier system which had a Mercury 810e intel chipset motherboard gives a higher output of sound through the onboard sound.
