Actually, Apple has a patent on that Heuristic implementation of touch which gives you an "illusion" of accuracy by actually making the touches more accurate to links. Others cannot use that same implementation, so have tried to work around it.

But Apple keeps suing other companies in court even for trying to work around that specific implementation.
