Some hardware questions.

Had a couple of questions which I could use some help on. One was I'm considering of getting a laptop. Although I am quite concerned about the budget. What I'm looking for is extreme value for money. Im trying to keep my budget at a minimum but if the laptop justifies the cost I won't mind spending on it as well. However I would appreciate the best I could possibly get for the least cost.

Secondly, my cousin happens to be starting a computer store thingie and hes basically taking me along to help him out purchase (I think he just wants me to carry stuff :| ) some stuff as well. What components would you say would be the most worthwhile stocking from your experience . Also try to focus on accessories which wont see that much of a change of price in the coming days.

Third need some advice for purchasing another system which pretty much follows the above terms for the laptop. Ill fill in the following template as well .

1. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
A: Basic How Use, Watch a movie or two, Maybe install some Linux OS , code a bit maybe.

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
Yes

3. What is your MAX budget?
I'm not sure I know how to specify this but as I said earlier cheapest possible with maximum returns .

4. Planning to overclock?
Nope

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
Maybe Windows XP and Linux else just Linux if I do ever get an original copy of WIndowsd & I might give it a whirl on it.

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
The more the merrier. Ive been downloading quite alot ever since I started using Linux so I guess the more space the better.

7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want?
Erm I haven't really given this much thought . Do 21 inch worthwhile monitors come cheap?

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
5 .

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Yes I usually put together my stuff.

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
Tomorrow or day after D: .

11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
Definitely the more future proof the better but I think Id rather be a bit more budget conscious considering the purpose of the system.

12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
Nope.

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
Ill be buying from a store Ive always been getting my stuff from.

14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary

But i think if you specify your maximum budget it will be easier for us to suggest....

I will go for Intel range of processors instead of AMD. Look out for their new i3 or i5 range.

Also get a entry level graphics card even if you don't plan to play games. Having a graphics card lessens the load of the CPU, especially while watching movies.

i dont know how many times we have argued in this forum that is i3 better or athlon 635. you should check the previous threads

and concerning graphics card the onboard hd4200 is fine for hd content..no bottlenecks..

My Fluency in Hindi is horrible so Id appreciate a translation if any advice was in it :< .

do you want speakers and UPS??
No I'm going to avoid this as I already have a speaker set I can use for this system. As for UPS I have an APC 600 VA I can use with the system as well so you can bypass that :) .

For the system I would think 35 k would be tops perhaps . For the laptop I'm not sure yet :| . I just want to get something that doesn't require me to sell a kidney but get the maximum benefit for the cost as well :| .

Also any idea on the second question. From experience Ive seen alot of SMPS and Hard Disks fried but I might be wrong.

From my understanding I was thinking that AMD was much more VFM than Intel and if I'm correct i3 and i5 aren't really new processors either are they?

The damage has been done :D . Ive made the purchase for everything but the Biostar motherboard and had to settle for a different one. I made a change for the monitor also. I decided to splurge a bit more and got the 22" Dell one . The 24" was not available for purchase either and coming from a 17" inch display I have got to say that this thing is HUGE.

Also got myself a Dell Inspiron 14 R . Just the plain black laptop . It seems to be nice and it came with Win 7 but it did cost an additional 1.5k I think D: . I believe someone has already done a review of these products at this point so Im not going to do the same . but if anyone has any questions be free to message .

I know people might be sad that I bought this but I really didnt have much option I guess. I think it was an Asus 785G -EVO something. On the cover it has something Extreme Edition written if I recall right. I'm too tired to get up and go look. Ill post the correct name tomorrow.

i think you brought yourself Asus M4A785TD-V EVO. its Xtreme Design. its just Gigabyte's Ultra Durable 3 + a few other things. labelled the name Xtreme Design. but i have heard a few bad things about this & a few Asus motherboard. ram unable to run in dual channel. the VIA audio unable give proper sound in win7 & yes the heatsink (north bridge) heats up badly. if you face no issues like this, than you on safe side. anyway congrats on the purchase
