Softwares used for converting VCD to DivX/Xvid !!!

Well..

Many of us convert our videos to DivX / Xvid to free the space!!!

Everybody uses different softwares as per as thier need to
convert DAT files to DivX / Xvid!!

Which one of above do you use?? Pls post the reason (advantages/disadvantages)

I use virtual dub mpeg2
Advantages:
Open source & Free
Extensible through a lot of plugins
A small sized download for a dialup user like me

i use vdub (os,free,good results, though crappy interface)
n
power video converter(easy to use)

Well the other day i recorded one program thru my Pixel View Card...

It was recorded in MPEG-2 format...(i guess) and when i tried to convert it thru Vdub..its didnt access the file and showed some error..

So in this case what do i need to do..??

@Dipen01 normal VirtualDub cannot read MPEG2 encoded files. Try using VirtualDub-MPEG2 from *fcchandler.home.comcast.net/stable/.
It can read but not write MPEG2 files

I want to get a good software for this purpose. Has Digit prpvided one in the precious CDs/DVDs ?

mpeg 4 directmaker is a marvellous utility 2 shorten the files.
though it converts only 2 avi & wmv formats but provides a lot of satisfaction.

Well google is GOD.... at one click.. :).. well if its trialware..then there will be little (yeh little) problem...

otherwise... none..

Am still searching some with best quality and best size...software... lets see will have to do trial and error..

Well but in this case.. where i have MPEG-2 file...then Vdub doesnt come at help..

yeh will be trying this beta version they released but unfortunately.... its doesnt work on 98...so am in a fix...

btw is Dr.DivX better or Divx Create....
