If OP can spend 7k+ for processor then why not AMD Fx6300 6 core 14 MB cache ?

The i3 has an IGP.
Then we can go for AMD based AGP solutions rather than high priced+low performance Intel CPUs.

i too feel i3 as this pc will be used for at least 2-3 years without any MB / processor upgrade.
is it better? i and my friend both are slightly biased towards intel and have not used any amd till date. he may go for it if it is better than i3.

1.No.FX-6300 will require a discrete GPU(1-2k extra),also it is a wee bit expensive than the i3.And you will be forced to buy the Asus M5A97 R2.0 EVO(8-9k) for "Overclocking" to make your pc "future-proof"

cheaper boards like gigabyte ga-78mlt usb3 has onboard graphics(which i think is faster than intel igp afaik) can be paired with fx 6300.so he may not need to go with a dedicated gpu.

^ I can play ALL games at low to medium settings including GTA 4, GRID 2, ME 1,2,3 and even Crysis 2 ran well except a few explosion scenes. ANd this is on i3 2100, with HD2000. HD3000 is much faster.

I did not say Intel i3/i5 processors are of low performance, rather said, for the same price or even lower price one can have much much better AMD solution than Intel. Its everything about money honey. AMD is always value for money which respects your HARD EARNED money well than Intel.oh man why you think i3 and i5 have low performancewho said you that ?

should be working as that processor is listed as being compatible from the F3 BIOS revision, which was released in October last year. so I would now expect this or a later revision to be included on any boards shipping now.
not in every price segment. athlon IIx2 will not be able to beat pentium g2020.
