server activation issue

I have a genuine copy of windows server 2008 and i have installed it in a virtual environment using oracle virtualbox. i have also activated it successfully. my question is that can i install the same copy of windows server 2008 in the real environment, i.e in my laptop and activate it?? or do i have to get another genuine copy?? i mean to say that i don't want to see a black desktop with a message that "this version of windows is not genuine" in future.

I think you should by another license.

Install but dont activate.or Is it like Win 7 that needs activation and is compulsory?
If it isnt dont update windows or activate.

Windows Server 2008 Requires activation and it's compulsory.
