yup my seagate 500GB SATA II has gone completely nuts it has started deleting my data on its own windows stop recognising it in the middle of operations and when restarted kaboom movies and songs just keep vanishing i have already lost more than 7 movies and around a 100 songs in this process apparently my hdd also has developed bad sectors in less than 2 weeks of use and the worst part i cant even copy the data left on the disk it just doesnt complete the transfer; data recovery isnt working either ...

Get it replaced, its in warranty and new Seagate drives aren't good as they used to be some time back. Western Digital and Hitachi are better........

my seagate 250gb sata2 is also not running in a way i like it too..performance not good...it is creating a bottleneck in my system

Western Digital is the best option for you now. But I heard Seagate Baracuda ES.2 is an excellent drive.
The ES.2 also has a SAS connection apart form SATA II. Its 16.5 k, with a 32 mb biffer and 7200 RPM.

And I think you might just be infected with a virus. Drives just don't go kaput all of a sudden, especially when in warrenty period. Issues like those have been seen often in windows.

Try booting with UBCD, Linux, etc in a live CD and confirm the problem.

Also run Seagate seatools (Dos version) drive self test. If the test fails better replace the drive asap.

I think winblow$ will not show what is happening :p go,boot a knoppix/ubuntu livecd, run SMART Test(u can run it from manufacturer's bootable cd,but I read in this forum that they will show no proper results ),I am sure this is not a hdd problem,it is viruses which is playing with imeow&his vista

edit:and not to say that SATA connectors are responsible for restarts and hangs 50% of the times.get a asus sata connector from some PC service guy or a shop!they are reliable and fits correctly :)

i suspected a virus issue but i checked the log file generated by scan disk and then googled the error to come up with results that pointed to a hdd failure

was an option but everytime windows stopped detecting the drive and i restarted bios was showing the drive not to mention linux wasnt loading the partitions also

im geting myself an external 250gb wd and then sending this seagate for replacement
