Rooting itself won't provide any battery boost, but after rooting you can uninstall system apps that consume battery, and also flash custom firmware that boosts battery performance.
Rooting is easy.
Download Odin, if you already haven't.
Head over to XDA, Original Dev section and download either CF or Siyah kernel. Open Odin and put that root file you've downloaded under PDA section of Odin. Click Start.
Done in 20 secs.
