Redhat 8 do not show total 4 GB ram? show 3GB only..Why?

My Dear friends

I have AMD server in that I Installed 4 Gb ram at boot time (POST)

it show full 4 GB ram but when Linux Redhat 8 but

in that it show only 3 GB only ..!! :shock:

so why this happend if any buddy know plese

help me..!!

Though I'm not sure but i think since RHL 8 is way old it might not be supporting this much amount of memory. Why don't you switch over to a newer version?

Its something to do with the chipset limitation i think I read someware that if u populate all four dimms with 1GB dimms the total memory recognised is less. Please see /proc/meminfo and see the details. also use free to get a quick update. Is it 3GB everywear?

Thanks but 4GB is installed and it show in POST also..!!

but i here from some1 that if in system have ram more then 3 GB then

kernel take 1 GB for it's own use and 3GB is for aplication....

can any but help me..!!

but i have 2 use Redhat 8 only becoz some software which support only redhat 8 only... so is there any solution...??

Actualy same problem with 2 servers...!!

so i think it's problem of Redhat 8 but is there any solution... 4 this problem..!!

ok,
RH8 supports 4GB RAM for sure. but the maximum memory that can be take up by an individual process is 3GB. You can acheive to a maximum of 3.5 GB by some kernel tweaking.

Please post the output of the following here.

actualy i m only install linux .. and my DBA install orecal 9i

actualy i don't know much about linux...

i have 2 install only linux... that it...

actualy my DBA told me that Redhat 8 only redhat 8 have 2 installed for orecal 9i...!!

but if i m install Fedora core 4 (latest) or mandrec or suzi linux... the new verson...

then i can get 4 GB total ram..??

so can any buddy told me Ferora core 4 support full 4 GB ram or in that also i can get only 3 GB or 3.5 GB ..? let know .. then i will try on fedora core 4 also..!!

2.6 kernels support upto 512 GB RAM. But i'm quite unsure about the individual process size. But in any case its over 4 GB. So that resolves your problem.

And the below tutorial will teach you how to install Oracle 9i on FC3 or higher.

Thanks but 2.6 kernels is with fedora core 3..??

let me know then i will install fedora core 3 and let try..!! :lol:
