You didn't specify the model number of your laptop, so I can't be sure, but I expect that your motherboard uses a Realtek audio chip and the problem is caused by the Microsoft UAA driver.
Go to Device Manager, disable UAA and then uninstall it. (You may have to restart after disabling it before you can uninstall it). Then try to install the sound driver again.
